Lowering a 172 on 17's???

Whats the verdict on lowering???

Ive got a Ph2 172 on 17's, and wouldnt mind lowering it tbh, but worry about the handling. Already having problems with tracking/steering but will sort them hopefully! just wondered what people thought?
 
Lowering it should be fine, but use decent springs like eibach or H+R coilovers, dont buy cheap suspension with it bein on 17's, willl not handle good.
 
I have 17's and it's lowered 45-50mm on eibach sportlines.

Handles much better and theres no rubbing whatsoever...

Although I had 5 people in the car and a full boot once for about 5 minutes and it didnt look too healthy ;)

On a 172??
 
Yea a 30mm drop on eibach sportlines would be your best bet methinks. 17's with low profile tyres aint any bigger than 16's with 205/50 tyres

All to do with being female IIRC.
 
It says 50mm drop as they suit many clio's. As sports are lower as standard they lower less.

If you put those springs on a non-sport (which it also says on the product info they will fit) you'll get a 50mm drop.

Erm, rofl.
 
I'm not saying that they're bang on 50mm, however the difference is HUGE.


When I can walk again, i'll take some pics of the arches and compare them to some old ones.

You should be fine on Sportslines as they only lower 25-30mm. 17's aren't ideal for a 172, but if that what you've got and like then you are limited to how low you can go. Sportslines are as good as it gets for the road. They give a balanced ride...firm enough to reduce body roll but still allow a little comfort.
Might be worth a visit to FCS and you will be able to get some good sound advice and probably see a few cars in the flesh running that sort of set up.
 
Check out stozza's car (formerly s70res). On 17's and apex springs i think, and ride and handling are superb! Looks spot on too :P

Probably quite bumpy over rough surfaces, but goes round corners well :D
 
17"s with Eibach Pro springs, approx 20mm drop, no rubbing whatsoever, 5 people in no problem, wouldn't recommend it myself, 16"s are best for sure.

I'd go with the eibachs as they are supposed to be best, plus the ride probably won't be too bad!
Not too sure where to buy, somewhere online!

just had my 182 fitted with eibach sportlines 30mm and 17's. i get rubbing on full lock and on turning on uneven road, i think i need coilovers or just cut the mud guard were the rubbing is.

Could be offset related TBH as alot of places sell the wrong offest wheels to people with Full fat 182's they are ET45 on a cup packed car and when you start putting ET37 wheels they usually flog you then you have major issues.


17's + Bin = JOB DONE

Been there, done it, wouldnt do it again. Those OZ's are nice but i'd have stuck with 16's tbh.
 
nah i think wheels are fine i ordered them myself from work, made sure i told the supplier i had the cup pack.....unless they didn't know!!! emmm you got me thinkin now....damn!
 
If you want the best handling go for the prolines. You won't get the same drop but they handle better. I've had both, and the pro's are the ones to go for. Go back to 16's and it'll be even better. If you're down birmingham way before my 172 goes, you can have a go in that to see the difference.
