Machine Polisher Help

JUst wondering whether someone would be able to give me some advice about this machine polisher.

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Silverline_Rotary_Machine_Polisher_1.html

Im a complete novice with one of these things but i know you get what you pay for with machine polisher, but i cannot justify spending a huge amount of money of one as funds are low as they are.

So is this polisher any good, anyone else used it before??

And i know this might be a stupid question but the attatchment looks different to most of the other pads, in the pic in the link above it looks like the pad just folds over, am i still able to fit the regular pads to this such as the one below

cheers in advance

A rotary for a novice would be a mistake imo. You'll be burning through paint in no time.

Go for a Dual Action such as the Megs G220 which are much safer.

That is a rotary polisher, if you are new to machine polishing I would advice you get a DA (Dual-Action/Orbital or something) Basically, a rotary spins like a sander would, which gives better correction, but also more risk of burning through your clearcoat and wrecking your paint. If you do this the only fix is a respray. A DA, moves like a rotary but also side to side and up and down, not as fast at correcting the paint, but much safer.

There is loads of info on detailing world about it. Will find some links, bear with me.

  Not a 320d
I have the S1M Rotary, bought it after using the G220 for about 2 years. Huge amount of heat build up with a rotary especially when compounding. Its best you buy a scrap pannel, im all for using rotary over the DA as its far more capable, but you need to know what it can do, use a crap or cheap polishing or compounding pad and deliberately burn through, it takes all of 4 seconds to do, you also need to watch for heatbuildup over the entire pannel, ive warped a bonnet before, fortunately it popped back into place. Rotary will bite and jump a bit compared to the G220, you need to let it do what it wants and keep a firm grip on the machine, its also hard to get a mirror finish without leaving holograms and hazing if you dont know what your doing where as the G220 is fool proof. Good machine, but not as quick or capable as the rotary IMO.

You are using this for correction on a Renault, correct?

Buy a DA. With the amount of plastic panels, and how soft the paint is, you'll run into problems with very little heat.

For Renault paint, buy this;

You will also need spot pads and a spot pad backing plate. And QD. And clay. And tape. And sealents/waxes. Detailing is not a cheap/quick fix method of getting your car looking spot on. If you have no experience either, my honest suggestion is to find a friend or pro local to you to get the paint sorted. Then teach yourself how to look after the paint properly.

The rest of the car is easy to pick up, relatively, i.e. plastics, rubbers, glass, interior, metal, wheels etc.

thanks for the advice guys. think it is probably safer to go for a dual orbiter from what most of you are saying, and i do realise how expensive proper detailing is, but am all up for learning

Just going on the first statement fella, can I suggest that you do a list and put it up on here. Or ask for what you need, tot up the cost and really look into it? It's great spending £150 on a DA with a few pads and polishes, but there is no point going 50%.

Got to agree with what JD said, no point going in half cocked so to speak, you need to build the right gear up and it can take time! Even the best are constantly updating their detaling products.

Lol.

I don't know why I bother though sometimes, I park in an empty section of car park, come back to find a car either side and a ding in my passenger door. I haven't broken out the DA in a good few months.
