Mark Fish 'modified cat' thread???

  Golf GT & A4 Avant
A few weeks back I was reading a thread where they had taken their car to Mark Fish in Harlow and he had modified the ends of the catalytic converter to reduce the restrictions and I can't find it.

I've been searching all morning through media, discussions and technical and can't find it. I think it was done by someone with 'Col' in their forum name, but may be wrong

does anyone remember the thread or even find it?

Thanks in advance

All he does is cut the outlet off and fit larger diameter tubing to it. Stock the inlet is ~2.5" and the outlet under 2" !?!

Have a look under your 182 and it will be clear what the issue is. The only hard bit about the mod is the oxy sensor is located right near the outlet that needs to be cut.

I was thinking of removing the centre silencer/ resonator box so I can run a full diameter tube right up to the join, and if the rest of the system is 60mm then there wouldn't be much benefit in paying £300+ for an aftermarket system then the cost of modifying that would there?

there would when an after market system will last you the lifetime of your car and the renault ones fall apart quite often

True, but I've checked the system and it's only this join that looks tired.

I'm not to worried abouth the life of the exhaust at the moment, more the potential gains to be had from it. I can't imaging the gains are going to be that much more if I did it to an aftermarket system

if thats what you think go for it. Just personally wouldnt bother unless I had a after market system, as seems a fair bit of hassle for something that may not last and may not get any gains
