Martins sliver mk2... overdue build thread! OEM+

  clio authentique
As said in the title, its well overdue! but im happy with how it looks now as its really coming together!

So as most build threads start, this is how i bought the car back in december 2011:

View attachment 81764

POVERTY SPEC! just a 1.2 8v, perfect first car IMO.
Paid £550 with 83,000 on the clock, tax and mot.
Was chuffed!

First Mod:

I wanted to make her look a little less... s**t i guess, just neaten her up a little.

-Started by shortening the arial.
View attachment 81765
Alot stubbier and neater IMO.

-Vinyl wrapped the badges

Might be seen as 'chavy' but thats just personal opinion i guess :)

Applied BASSS!! (stupidly, but it wasnt expensive! :D)

Sooo after this... The car looked no different, made noise and rattled trim alot... Idiot! but it was progress none the less!!

January 2012:

Passed my test and was on the road after these mods! Was more oem than it could be seen as it was bog standard! But! that was soon to change.
After getting comfortable with being on the road... days after i passed i guess (not meaning to sound a tw*t!) i wanted to gets my ideas and plans that were currently just 'photoshop edits' and day dreams to being reality!

Basically as low as i could get her, yellow tint on the main and side lights, wind deflectors, a spoiler, vinyl wrap the fog blanks in black, clear side repeaters and the average sticker collection most people have on there back windows ;)

Heres the photoshop:
558283_10150981907529081_193744113_n.jpg

(Wanted to see what HID's would look like, or atleast get an idea)

Dreamt of banded steels but thats all it would be as i was made redundant and found myself searching for a job and using the money i had saved up whilst working to run the car :(... sad times!

But i didnt give up! got on ebay and ordered a few metres of black vinyl, yellow tint film and most importantly the wind deflectors!
407570_10150506827629081_1692702642_n.jpg

NEEDED DROPPED! desperately!!! alot of people said that the yellow looked gash but at the time, i liked it! it was my car and if i liked it then thats all that mattered right?

Soo after long thought about being unemployed and whether buying coilovers was a stupid idea... i realised it was! but bought them anyways!! YOLO! haha

Budget was as low as possible so V-MAXX were out of the window and raceland was in! :/ was told that they were pants and that the damping preset was s**t and that they would make the car handle like s**t!

But the way i looked at it was... Budget>Brand... Looks>Handling... its a first car for crying out loud!! So got her sitting like in my previous PShop, suprisingly! and i was pleased with it in fairness!
399986_10150529529299081_1338017590_n.jpg

Looking back now it really did look a bit of a dog but at the time i was well pleased!!

my list was almost complete... just needed the spoiler and the clear side repeaters to finish the list off!!

Found a spoiler off a dynamique on ebay in silver... wrong colour codethough!! so used my left over vinyl to wrap it!! up close its not the best but from a distance it looks alright so im not fussed!! Also got the clear side repeaters off ebay!

555627_10150981987879081_2103969085_n.jpg

The end of january came along and i was pleased with the progress i had made! i had the car looking like i wanted it but still wanted more!

February 2012:

progress made on car 0%

progress getting a job.. 100%

Off topic i know, but on the 13th i started a months trial at a local garage that deals in quads, bikes and cars! spent the few days before going round hading cvs out and after the first twelve in garages i was ready to give up!! had one last cv left and thought i would take a long shot and try the garage i least expected to be looking to take anybody on and ahhhh bistooo!! i offered myself for a trial period and they liked me and most importantly i liked the job! good wage but long hours! 8.30 til 6.00 mon-thursday then 8.30 til 5.00 on a friday. was pleased to say the least! :D

March 2012:

bored of typing so far but i'll finish it as and when i can! i can assure you the outcome in the end will be alot different to what you are imagining looking at this now!... feel free to comment.

Martin. :D

dont worry about it :) its all in hand and they are already on, along with other things but i just havent got it on here yet as i got sick of typing the other day and some images stopped working! :( as for the wind deflectors there isnt much difference i dont think but i never payed too much attention but they are handy for letting cool air in without getting a face full of wind!

The Carry On.

March:

Settling into the new job and started building up a small amount of money to fall back on meaning i laid off of doing stuff to the car for a week or two... said goodbye to the yellow tints... missed them to begin with but months down the line now i dont really mind anymore and as the car sits now i dont think i would put them back on :) by the end of the month i had made a purchase on a few shiny items... a set of five 15 inch 5 spoke renault alloys with tyres... or atleast 4 decent ones. they were a bit over priced looking back now but i didnt mind because at the time it was neatening the shed up :)

View attachment 81960

Pleased with it at the time... was unsure to begin with but it grew on me a little over time. didnt like the silver on silver though. had a problem of the tyre rubbing on the strut which meant i was slicing the tyre wall in two! not good! so i had to invest in some 5mm spacers to stop this pee take of a bugger! anybody had this?

that was the end of that month and not much had changed really, but it was still progress :)

April:

Well the back wiper felt like an irrelevant piece of crap, so i visited a scrappy to get a wiper plate that i could attack and turn into a blank :)
work kindly supplied the fibre glass, filler, primer and paint :) unwillingly i guess but heyy you have to have perks in the workplace eh?!

was pleased how it turned out tbh, also took the clio badge off as i was waiting for a sticker to arrive :)

396966_10150986210609081_2023744381_n.jpg

Was pleased with how it looked now and it was a little less clutter without the wiper :) ... wanted to invest in pressed plates as my plates were looking a bit on the rough side :( so i was on ebay searching for the cheapest ones i could find.

May:

another month another purchase :) plates had arrived along with my sticker to replace the clio badge so got the car all shiny and took some shots :)

533043_10150865020284081_812427499_n.jpg

Or atleast one rear shot that showed both of them :) also got rid of terry the turtle 8v society sticker :) wanted to be a little less cluttered :) (Y)

Thats all i can come up with for now but i will finish the thread of and get it up to date in the next few days :) hope its not to boring of a read for whoever reads it :)

Martin.

May:

Made a loud purchase that cost all of £10 :O wasnt sure if i wanted it to begin with as i wanted to keep the rear of the car clean but it went on anyways

399399_10151008016929081_2119742896_n.jpg

polished it up and it came out well :)

553651_10151008017099081_644244600_n.jpg

I had my friends dad weld it up for me but it sticks out probably an inch to far but i really cbb to faf on welding it again but it doesnt sit to bad

427403_10151008024384081_329123115_n.jpg

cut a hole in the bumper so it didnt hang down and catch everywhere! :)... it entertains me as a 1.2 as it goes no where but it pops and cracks everywhere so its all good! :)

June:

Junes focus was to clean the car up, mainly in the engine bay. I understand that it has no power what so ever but i would rather have a tidy car than a trampy looking sh*t box.

I wanted to make an induction as i just had the air filter onto the standard pipe sitting at the back of the engine... eatting up hot air! :/ oooops! so i got on ebay and ordered up silicone hoses a tube of aluminium and a pcv valve (onewayvalve) to stop the filter sucking a load of oil through!! This is how it turned out and i was happy enough, just needs a few tweeks here and there :)

480978_10151008052304081_1781061116_n.jpg

honestly after that i gave up on trying to tidy the engine bay up! it needs time and i dont really have it and i cba! :/ bad i know but ahh well :)

With the five spokes showing all of the 'rusty' caliper i decided a coat of black would make it look a little less s**t! :)
396057_10151008060314081_894942417_n.jpg

also cleaned and polished the face and the inners of the front wheels to stop the brake dust gathering up, they came up quite well and they looked alot better with the tyre shine :)

June:

interior got some time spent on it, wanted to replace the light coloured doorcards and trim bits etc with the darker grey door cards etc and waqnted to try my hand at wrapping parts in alcantara :)

A few months back i bought a full set of grey door cards of a member on here for £20, i wanted to replace the lower dash to the same dark grey as the top dash so found one close by and picked it up for another £20 (still to go in) and he also threw in some smooth dash strips and the eletric wingmirror covers in for just £5 so i was pleased :)

wrapped my A pillars in alcantara and put the eletric mirror covers on even though i dont have them so to adjust you just push the mirror but ohh well! turned out well imo :)

With the theme being oem, i purchased a sticker that i think looks good because its descrete but cool!

Also uprated my bulbs up front as well as led plate and interior bulb, wanting silvatec ind bulbs too but havent got round to buying any yet :/

Paid £150 for them, no kerbing at all really just needed a good clean tbh but i wanted them refurbed so got a friend to shot blast them, cost only £60 so was pleased especially when they came out like they did :)

came out looking fresh ;) friend works at a wheel refurb place so got them powder coated for £100... hence why i feel i paid over the odds. but they make the car look soooo much better! was over the moon with how they make the car look!!

I know im not the first and i wont be the last to run turbines but it really finishes off the OEM look imo... next step is to get 15mm wheel spacers all round and roll the rear arch lip over to avoid catching...

thats all for now, really pleased with how shes looking now :) let me know your opinions etc

cheers, martin.

plans were to neaten up the boot as i had bought a little tool box to put all my cleaning stuff and crap in but it took up so much space with the sub and amp etc so i needed to sort it out.

i kinda agree on the exhaust... if it didnt stick out as far it wouldnt bother me too much tbh. i was thinking of doing the door bump strips in anthricite like the wheels then colour coding the door handles and possibly the wing mirrors.

July:

Ok, so the boot was looking cluttered and i was sick of the stupid sub flying round the boot going round corners! so i wanted to do a boot build! :D
I wanted something that gave me space but something that meant i could get to the spare wheel easy enough. I didnt really want to spend to much money on tbh so i was on the scrounge for some mdf board and carpet!

Went round to my friends house and we were in his garage when i seen he had some so i sharp had that off his hands and also got some carpet off him too :)
Started by making a template with cardboard then cut it out on the mdf which was only just the right size but it worked so that was the main thing.

582047_10151010625749081_134523926_n.jpg

Got the sub hole cut and then carpeted it up :)

427025_10151010626979081_1763676377_n.jpg

got it in and tidied up all the wires to the amp so you can only see the rca's... air fresheners to keep it smelling fresh haha ;) just a small touch i guess.

313692_10151010627854081_330928167_n.jpg

still not quite perfect as i really need to fibre glass the back up so the sub has something to work off as theirs just a huge hole letting all the air out :( boooo! il get it done at some point though :)

Re: Martins silver mk2... OEM+ 1st Car

I dont know what others think but i really really like my car now! its really come a long way since january i think! Its not far from being complete imo :)

I recently purchased a ripspeed DV720 monitor headunit for £70 off a mate mine which i was pleased with as i meant i could plug my phone in so less cds cluttering the glovebox! :)

I replaced pretty much every single interior trim from the beige colour to the dark grey/black colour out of the 16v models and all the other none poverty spec models really haha. Got a full set of door cards for £20 off a lad on here, i wrapped my A pillars in alcantara as well as the handbrake cover for about £15, then i visited the scrappy and got every single over part of trim possible including a gearbox mount rubber ( stupid price of £49 rrp) all for a tenner!! was chuffed to bits! :D i also picked up a dark parcel shelf from the scrappy in perfect condition for £5 and purchased a dark lower dash for £20 of ebay so now all thats really left for me to get for her is:

-4x 15mm wheels spacers
-Half leather seats or just the grey 172/182 ones (let me know if you have any :) )
-silvatec indicator bulbs
-uprated white high beam bulbs
-clean the headlights or replace them with the built in HID ones

and theirs probably other things but i cant think atm :(

Anyways feel free to leave feedback and tell me yours opinions. :)

Martin.

Thanks for the positive comments etc ... soon gonna order my spacers :D get some proper'ish stance haha.

Been having problems with my amp the piece of cr*p! :( managed to trap my rca leads when i put my seat belt bolt back in so i replaced them... didnt change a thing :( I was stumped! Didnt have a multi metre so i replaced my remote lead still nothing! There was power through my live as i found out when it sparked across the amp :/

Earth was fine, as were the fuses so i was expecting my amp to be buggered, rang my mate to see if i could borrow is to see if that was the problem... but noooo his didnt work either..

Turns out it was the remote coming from the 'halfrauds' headunit... should have been expected really but i got it sorted using a scotch clip... bloody excellently simple but brilliant idea! ran the remote of the ignition live cable so its all gravy and mash potato as they say! :D

Re: Martins silver mk2... overdue build thread! OEM+

August:

Well it was all going well, decided to wash my car at lunch at work and then somebody stole my space so had to park in the middle of the square... was literally walking out of work when i witnessed a woman in a subaru legacy reverse straight into the side of my car and then pushed it 2ft.

405526_10151048137959081_1240714883_n.jpg

Was safe to say i was a little peed off but fortunately they got out! :) they dont want to do it through the insurance but theyve agreed to pay :) got a quote to get the dent pulled out the rear quarter, then the rear quarter sprayed and the whole back bumper resprayed and it came to £220 which seemed reasonable to me even if i were paying for it.

Its depressing everytime i look at it though! :( no motivation to even wash it but i know that when its all painted it will look so much better! will only have a couple minor dints to popout the passenger door then il have a dent free car!

On a lower note ;) the subframe couldnt resist a kiss off northumberlands finest country roads!
