Matt's RB damp sand.

  Clio 182
Hi everyone. For those interested here's my project thread on my RB 182. I recently brought this from Lal b3n. It was worth the 6 hour drive.
Since getting the car I have fitted washer blanks. Recaro seats. Euro rear lights and carbon dash trims.
But my main concern is the swirled and orange peeled paint. So I thought why not wet sand the whole entire car.
This will be done when I have a spare day to do a panel.
I did the bonnet the other day after the whole car was washed and decontaminated. It still needs more sanding. As I need to remove more peel. It was sanded with 1500 and 3000 grit. Then polished back with the rupes Bigfoot blue microfibre pad finished with a White rupes pad. Here's some pics.
Before. See the peel on the light.

Still needs more with the 1500.

Then it was hit with some 3000 grit.

Here is some finished photos. It still needs more sanding. Which will hopefully be Sunday.

Big balls mate, cars just come alive with sanding. Are using Mirka discs on a DA?

I echo the above, I wouldn't dare do that to mine for fear of f**king it up big time.

Well the car has had some bigger issues than the paint. Its recently started smoking under load at high revs. Also it's using oil.
So I had my old written off Clio 182 on my drive so I have been busy removing the engine on that to put in the RB. I'm stripping loads of bits off it to get powder coated. I have stripped all the inlet manifolds and cam cover and more.
I'm going to replace all the oil seals and the clutch and get the gearbox rebuilt as well. So it will be one sorted engine once done.
Here's a pic of how the engine looks now.

Was this the car that was turbocharged at Clioturbo then the owner decided to take the turbo conversion back off and put it onto his sunflower 172?

I might be totally wrong lol.

  Clio 182
I'm pretty sure it was. It dropped a valve on 197 cams. So the head was rebuilt.
All the bits are off the the powder fosters on Saturday.

  Clio 182
Another update.
Took the head off while some bits were at the powder coaters. So I decided to fit new valve stem oil seals and lapped all the valves. All the head needs is a skim and it's done. Gave it a quick paint.
So today I have stripped the engine ancillaries and gave the block a coat of paint and the brackets.
I even painted the air con compressor and alternator.
Gearbox is off and will be rebuilt at some point soon. Got a Valeo clutch on order with some arp rod bolts.
I have replaced the front and rear crank seals the rear crank seal had been leaking.
Here's some pics.

The last thing to do is remove the sump and paint it fit new rod bolts and a new sump gasket.

  Clio 182
Well this afternoon I stripped the sump off the engine. Removed the oil pump to fit new arp bolts. But then thought do I just fit new piston rings as this is what has gone on the current engine. I will be fitting a new oil pump as well. But is it worth fitting rings.

What's the mileage? And is it standard power? Mines just hit 100k so gona refresh the top end but the bottom end is pretty bulletproof so just gona leave it...

  Clio 182
Its done about 77,000 miles. Never used a drop of oil before it got written off. So that's why I'm tempted not to do them.

  Clio 182
So this afternoon I decided to fit the new piston rings. I got them from engine dynamics.
I have honed the bores and fitted the rings and fitted new arp bolts.
I'm making progress slowly. I'm also going to be fitting a new oil pump. On the transmission side of things. The gearbox has been rebuilt by a local specialist. There is also a Ktec lightweight flywheel and new Valeo clutch to go on.
There are more goodies to fit soon as well. I have just purchased 438 cams with uprated valve springs. So that's going on when they arrive.
Anyway here's some pics.

I'll be interested to see what the SM manifold makes with 438's as i have one to fit and currently trying to decide what cams if any to fit at the same time

  Clio 182
Yeah it's the sm inlet. I'm hoping it will make good power once it's mapped.
Just in the process of removing the engine now.

  Clio 182
Well the engine is in and running. Just need to get it mapped for the mods that it's now got.
Here is s few pics during and finished. I'm so glad it's done and running.

  Clio 182
Well the Clio has done over 300 miles since the engine has gone in.
I had issues with the rear crank seal after fitting a new one. So the car was recovered to Dan at SJM who fitted a new seal with the correct tool. I couldn't find the special tool anywhere hence why it had to go to Dan. It was also mapped whilst it was with him. Dan did a compression test before the mapping it made 214psi per cylinder which is ridiculously good compression.
I also asked him to check the rest of the engine over as he is a specialist in these cars to make sure I did everything correct. He said it was really good and he was pleasantly surprised as most are normally timed up wrong. But mine was timed up spot on.
After about 100 miles there was a small leak from the gearbox which has nothing to do with the work Dan done. It turns out that it was the plate that covers 5th gear which just needed tightening.
I managed to get some photos today.

No bother mate looking forward to seeing your results. The Sm inlet and 438s are the route im thinking of going with my Rb Cup

Well went out to the Clio yesterday and click. Starter motor has gone. Great.
Off to gsf to get one. They had one on the shelf so I brought it ready for fitting on Sunday.
So it took me about 40 minutes to fit. Wasn't too bad to fit. Unbolted the manifold made life easier. A guy said to me when I was doing my apprenticeship if it makes it easier to remove something then remove it instead of struggling.
It was removed all from the top and refitted back through the top. The Clio now starts on the button.
Here's some pics.

Right so today I changed the oil and filter with titan race pro oil. So that's the running in procedure done. So it can finally be taken to the limiter if I want now.
I also fitted my wheel spacers from pure motorsport.
If some of you may remember my silver 182 which got written off had a set of turini wheels. Which I have now just got back from south west wheel repairs. They are awesome. They were refurbished in the Clio cup grey colour and the finish is spot on. They were coated with artdeshine artdewheel.
Here's some pics.
