Measuring Hub spacing

Okay lads, as some of you may already know from my earlier topic.

I'm left with a broken hub thanks to a trigger happy press welding polish grease monkey.

I have the current hub with me now, I've been to the breakers and all the hubs I see on the clios are diffrent, they all look fatter than my current hub, I was wondering how do I find out the exact spacing, like where to i measure point to point.

I might just go to my Renault Stealer with my hands in the air and asked to be wallet raped.
Would new hubs come with bearings pushed in?
 
You measure from the center of the top to the center of the bottom bolt.
Spacing will be either 52, 54 , or 58mm's
Yep new hubs come with new bearings.

This may sound silly but do I measure the space inside the two bolt holes or start just after the hole, if you get what I mean as it's coming back as 38mm.
 
Nothing sounds silly if you don't know the answer.
See the attached photos the black lines ignore its just a picture I had to hand. The lines you want to look at are the red ones the red circles are where the bolt goes the distance is between the yellow spots .

Hi Edde, thanks ever so much for that cleared it up fine for me.
The measurment is returning back at just over 2inches which is about 51mm

Okay the ruler was out, measured with a Stanley tape measure and it came back at 52mm
Is this a rare sized hub?
 
52 mm was a common size, 54mm is a bit rarer 58 was for the bigger engines cars and the modern cars.
I'd personally be tempted to get the 54mm hbs for both sides or whatever size they have in stock (even bigger engines ones particually if you can get the calipers as well) and buy some aftermarket shocks or a whole suspension kit for the car.

Was thinking that but to be honest can't fault the handling even in the wet.
What does get me? why does my old phase 1 have 54mm spacing along with the other three at the breakers and my Clio RT which was considered top range back in the day got smaller spacing.

Does it represent anything to do with how gooder it handles as my 1.4 is a lot smoother than my 1.2 dispite having smaller hub spacing

Think it was just pot luck, whatever they dug out the parts bin lol.

Mines a mk1 ph1 1.4rt and that has a 52mm spacing, so might be more common on the earlier phase 1 :)

Mk1 Phase 1 1991 - 54

..Bloody random French, theres a guy breaking a 16v round my area, me thinks front suspension and hubs are in order, are the phase 1 16v shocks good?

If i cant get the 16v setup anyone know how much a complete hub and bearing would be, gsf dont seem to sell them.
 
Hi mate, 54mm is the most common, 52mm is rarer and 58mm is super-rare.

Luckily i have 2 52mm spacing hubs sitting in the garage doing nowt as i upgraded to a 16v setup...one had a new bearing in the last 6 months and the other bearing i think is fine;
