Megane 225 better than mk2 V6

  Mark 1 Clio V6

Was speaking to a mate of mine who is a racing driver and he told me he was offered his choice of all Renaultsport cars for coming second in the championship he competed in this past season.

He said he tested both the V6 and the Megane round a track for a day each with a few of the other guys in the series and that in his opinion the Megane felt faster and was more fun.

He chose the Megane over the V6. Felt it was an altogether better package than the V6.

I must admit that I was surprised at his decision but he knows what he likes and said that the V6 was just a touch tame and that for every day use the Megane is a far better car.

Just thought I would share his opinions.

I can see his point, for an everyday car, the Megan is indeed the better alround prospect.

However, he must be the first boring racing driver Ive ever heard of.

Omar said the meg handles like a boat compared to a 182, so the V6 must be even worse?!? I dont think so somehow.

He is not buying. Getting given and that was what he chose. He is a professional race driver and came second in a Renault series and therefore got his pick.

I asked him about the handling and he said that it was not at all bad round a track. He had both cars for a day each and chose the Megane. Said as a track car the V needs more power and for an every-day car is useless. Said the Megane got the power down quicker.

Yeah agree, "The Stig" loved the V6 255 on Top Gear, so said Clarkson.....Reckon the Stig knows more about racing? :D

I reckon the Turbo would make the 225 feel abit faster, but round a track the 255 is the quicker one.....

Have fun Craig mate, and why dont you change your name to Craig225?? Oh and I know which one I prefer, and it doesnt begin with "M"...;)..lol

Just sharing the opinions of a guy who has been racing for 8 years.

He was a kick in the bum from getting an F1 testing job but has chosen something a bit more competitive.

I guess he might know a bit about racing.

I admit I was pleasantly surprised and having driven both around a track for a day is probably more qualified than most to aire an opinion. Just sharing is all.

I wouldnt want a V6 unless I was totally minted and could afford to s/charge it like MikeTs.

No issues with 2 seats as my cars a 2 seater.

Just dont think theyre worth the money especially when you consider how much they loose.

Most cars loose huge amounts of money...if you buy a car only to sell it, then send your money on something else....lol

They will only be around 500 in the uk (Mk1 and mks2 total) by the time they stop selling them, future classics I would say, and I intend to keep mine for many years, they are that good....lol

You have to have one to know one though...lol:D

Renault build the v6 to be a toy/track day car and racer. Therefore its gonna be better than the 225. The engine is in the right place and the drive comes from the rear. It will be a well balanced machine with plent of grip for cornering due to its wide track. The 225 is just a road car with loads of grunt. Im sure that it does handle very well though.

No offense to V6 owners but when i drove one it felt:

1. Nervous

2. Unstable

3. Heavy

4. Uninvolving

Sure they make a nice sound, but i really cant see the attraction of them. More of a gimmick than a sports car.

IMO of course;)

Everyone loves their own cars.

V6 has o/s looks and presense.

I just dont think its worth that money compared to an Evo or a Scooby and they will prob hold more of their value.

All cars lose money but some lose less than others. I wouldnt buy a brand new car unless I was minted and could afford to throw away £15k in 3 years.

Well the only reason I didnt go for an EVO or Scoobie is that there are so many of them round here that I am fed up of seeing them (plus my Bro already has a Scoobie (03) I also find the EVOs/Scoobies rather boring to look at, just a family 4 door with AWD and a Turbo...;) IMHO:D

My Brother is changing his Scoobie soon for an Sti one (05 plate) and expects to loose a huge amount on price with part exhange....

I also find it very strange that on a CLIO site there seems so much hatered of the V6??

The CLIO V6 255 is the fastest car that Renault make....:D

The V6 is a great looking car, soon theyll be much sought after cos I believe Renault are going to stop making them...they may lose a few quid initially but in a few years time theyll be in the same class as an Escort Cosworth etc (Still fetching at least 15k for good one). Seeing a v6 on the road is something special due to the fact they are so rare, V6 for me any day over a scoob or Evo,

All cars, bar a few exotic ones and the ones that have already lost it, will depreciate by around 50% within 3 years. So whether you lose 5K on a £10 car or £25k on a £50K car is immaterial, it will happen and theres nothing you can do about it.

The point to the thread wasnt about losing value though, it was about picking either of the cars mentioned. And picking from your heart, it would have to be the Vee for its rarity, its looks (People dont give scoobies, evos or meganes a second glance when it passes, but people stop, look and drool as a Vee goes past) and its performance.

Was a MK2 Yoz. Another member of this forum drove the same car and agreed with me. Maybe it was a bad example. Or maybe it was because he owned a Williams. I dont know. But i would be gutted if id spent 25k on it. I can see why people like them, but they just dont do anything for me.

the looks are the main reason to buy one. the price ensures the look remain rare and individual. all the rest isnt important (well apart from loud nova stylee exhuast noise)

its illegal to drive fast in this country so its better have a car that looks fast than have a car that is fast but looks bland.

But for the honest true driving geek the V6 may not get a lookin due to its weight and balance.. the megane gets lots of looks too for its oddness and its quite rare horses for courses (maybe because knowone likes them ?)

I bet there are not many people who would turn down a MeganeRS if it performed, felt the same but looked like a V6 albiet with a turbo.

I think the Vee has to be over priced otherwise they would be common. The meganeRS is going to depreciate like a lead ballon but isnt that really cool for all us car modifiers.

Much like Vag.com their must be a way to weight up the steering on the Megane and im sure 260bph remap isnt out of the question. get one in 1yrs time for 12k or 2yrs for 10k with every option on.

Also im sure Renualt will be disapointed with the response the RS has got and realise its missed its target market even if only slightly. no doubt they will increase steering feel and sort suspension out, maybe even put the car on a diet.

hi guys... i own a v6 mk1... i have driven both the mk2 and the meg 225 around bedford auto drome... the v6 mk2 was the best but my mk1 chipped to 242 was the most fun cos it dont handle as well as the mk2.... it drifts and squirms in corners and you come out the other side with a massive smile on your face....:)

Driven both round a track mesen, mk2 v6 all day long, it handles a lot lot better, its massivly more involving to drive and its RWD. Meganes ok to get the kids to school and have fun driving back but its half the car the mk2 v6 is. The racing driver isnt much of a racing driver if he thinks the 225 is the better car!

May be he had other reasons to choose the meg? cash back?

He would have been a fool to choose a 20k car over a 27k car if there was no kick back involved;)

Is that the R19 16V Ferrous Radical special that Renault released? Thats not fair though because the R19 had the specially engineered iron oxide weight reduction system (IOWRS).

IMO of course;)

And who told you this golden nugget? lol

Megane is certainly a better bet for 99% of people. The V6 has inferior practicality, is noisy and is generally more expensive to run. You could make the same comparison with any family car.

But round a track, which I think is what this thread is meant to be about????? Come on, youre having a giraffe mate :p
