MikeB's Wheel Refurb....

Rob

So... MikeB off here asked me if I could sort out some 172 alloys he'd sourced from someone, with the description of "they're not in too bad condition" I accepted....

So I went and got the wheels, "not too bad" wasn't quite what I'd call not too bad but still... I got to starting work on them, after A LOT of evenings sanding, I finally got them to a level I was happy with....

(They are by no means perfect, but only around the edges (I had warned Mike I wouldn't be filling them))

Anyways, pics...

Good start mate, have a go at the fillering, I reckon you'd be able to do it.

Cheers Craig, I'd have done a full on hardcore job in a heart beat mate, but I'm working full time at the moment, so finding the time to do it is just impossible!!!

I've been trying to get them to this standard for long enough so I can just paint away, I <3 painting tbh  Just the prep work gets on my tit's!

u can do the ones i have in my shed ther a STATE!

Depends what you call a state! LOL! these were pretty bad, every wheel kerbed all the way around the rim, some VERY heavy and deep, and then two wheels had every spoke kerbed and the other two just a spoke or two kerbed.

Nightmare tbh!

Use a power sander then finish by hand using a sanding block it makes it a lot easier trust me. I might PM you after christmas for some of those primers aswell mate if thats ok? Also good job that without filling tbh.

What style power sander mate?? I have one but leant it to a mate, need to get it back.

And yeah thats fine about the primer, just PM me, i'll weigh and measure one can, then I can get exact measurements and weights for how many you want and see how much it costs. :)

I have my set for sale.... They are in light grey, inbetween grey and silver really, very tasty. ;)

Top job mate.

I hated prepping mine. When I had them lined up you could see the one I started on and was really keen and by wheel 4 they were getting painted when they were rough! I didn't help that I did them all by hand, once I started painting my StepDad said I could have used his mini sander thingy! Ace :dapprove:

Cheers Revols. What type of sander though?

I think mine would be too big for them tbh!

I know exactly what you mean on the keen-ness measure mate, you can pretty much see the order you did them in right through from start to finish!!

It's one of those precise little jobbys. Got a couple of different ones. Would have meant I didn't have to do any of it by hand! :(

I used a detail sander, the one I used was this one but you can get cheaper ones. A Dremel would probably be better I think as you can get like a 25mm grinder attachment but they are expensive and the detail sander was Dads so was free haha. No worries I'll PM you after new years about the primers ;)

  Ph1
I used a sanding wheel attachment / electric drill combo to refurb the outer lip on some OZ Superlegs i had to good effect.

Suprised these wheels are worth refurbing. Thought the ph2 wheels were pretty much worth nowt and plentiful on the 2nd hand market..
