Mis-firing after engine clean

  Clio 197
Had a bit of a cleaning session over the weekend, see here
http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?569690-My-first-clio-detail&highlight=

anyway part of this involved cleaning the engine bay on saturday - i covered all obvious components (alternator, IK cone etc) however on monday night i developed a bad misfire - i immediately thought of water ingress in the plug area so earlier on i took the coilpack off the car, plugs out and cleaned the plug wells (2 out of the 4 had water down there) i took the coilpack and plugs inside and dried it all off with the hairdryer and cleaned the plugs up.

Refit and the problem is still there, could the coilpack have gone kaput? I am confused as to why it ran perfect for 2 days before developing this problem

Any help appreciated

This sounds exactly like what happened to my car, I cleaned the engine bay and got a bit of water down into two of the plugs. Funny thing is the car ran perfect for weeks afterwards, but when I changed my plugs to some new NGK's, the problems started! But anyway, it turned out to be my HT leads as my Dad got a huge shock off them when we were diagnosing the thing for about 2 weeks  in the end though my car fixed itself just before my new leads arrived (going to presume the leads had moisture in them and eventually dried out) :S

I'd be inclined to say it's your leads! Maybe buy some genuine used leads from ClioSpares on eBay? £25 or there abouts with a 3 month warranty.

just been out to try this morning to see anything obvious with the leads in the dark and it now won't start, i think i will begin by replacing the coilpack , the water would kill that before the leads i think
