Mk1 172 aircon question

Aircon on the 172 isnt really working, air isnt as cold as I would expect, more luke warm.

Having the system regassed and serviced Monday, but just curious how cold are other peoples aircon when on full whack in a mk1?

Went in a friends battered old 406 yesterday, 165k on the clock and the aircon was icey cold

i just went out in the car with the aircon on, and thought "hmmm this isnt very cold" then realised i had it on full pelt at the windscreen! hehe, turned the dial to "towards the seats" and it was beautiful.

Make sure your temperature dial is turned to cold? i think that effects it, or maybe im blonde

Clios seem to need re-gassing quite regularly for some reason. You should get really cold air if its working properly.

Who much does it cost to re-gas typically? Think mines not up to scratch thats all.

IIRC £150 to get it re-gassed, my mk2 172 had 2 leaking pipes when I picked it up which got replaced and regassed under warranty, but apparantly thats how much it would have cost me.

And yes it should be icey cold, apart from when its less than 5 degrees outside, in which case it is already icey cold outside.. and the aircon wont come on because it could freeze the unit.

Re-gas from a mobile specialist who is coming to me which includes full regas with UV dye to detect leaks and a service of the compressor (think he said he jst greases the comp wheel to make sure all is ok so it wont sieze) is costing £64 inc vat so not too bad.

All done, £55+VAT so 64ish, air is now icey cold

The guy checked everything to make sure it was working and said that the gas was low hence why it wasnt working.
