Mk1 172 or 1.6 16v

Car  None

Ive seen some 172s for sale for about 5k (even seen one at 3.5k). I just cant decide if its worth paying out the extra for the 172. Im not worried about the insurance side of things tho. In the summer im gonna have about 4k hopefully to get another car. Is it worth waiting for the mk1 172 prices to drop to around 3.5 - 4k before getting one or just to get a 1.6 16v to save on running costs, insurance etc??

mate i have a 1.6 2003 and the cost are similar to run to a 172, mpg isnt much difference and niether is service costs, 172 is 12k 1.6 is 18k

172 no questions if you can afford it and the insurance. Total hoot, best car youll ever own, until you own something better. lol

ahh I didnt know that mate, come to think of it there were a few later model mk2 ph1 1.4 16Vs

Mint mk1 172 still fetch 6k, youll be able to get a good one on 60/70k for 4/5k I bet. Fantastic cars, lot rawer then the newer 172s

If you can afford the insurance the 172 but dont buy a binner save up a bit more and get a good one

I cannot see you getting a 172 for that sort of money unles it has 100k+ and more likly 150k on it.

2000 Mk1 with 60k are about £5k private and 2002 Mk2 about 5k for a 130k model.

if insurance no bother, get a 172 no questions.

as above, u wont get a decent 172 for less than 5k. why dont u just splash out and get a mint one, they lovely cars and quite rare

i found mine bout 14 months ago mk1 172 2001 model with 15k miles on it, today it rolled on to the big 20k !:D.. but it wasnt cheap. you get what you pay for

Hmmm If i def had 6k I would get a mint 1, I could prob stretch to 4.5/5k at the most but means ill be poor for a while lol

I got a flawless black Mk1 172 with 48K for £5400. Thought it was a great deal at the time, reading all this Im not so sure now...

Get one though. Why would you want a 1.6 instead?
