Mk1 clio - very poor performance

I have a clio 1.2 1995 n reg which recently has become v sluggish. The engine seems to tick over fine + does not missfire etc. When you put throttle down the car hardly moves + engine trys to pull + screams!

Has anyone got any ideas as to what it could be?

The size of the engine?... Only kiddin could have dodgy HT leads/spark plugs or dizzycap

What do you mean screams?? Do you mean the revs climb but the car doesn't accelerate as normal? If so then your clutch will be on the way out.

Revs dont rise just sounds v noisy (sandshrews m8)
