Mk1 phase 3 Rsi oil leak?

hello there, wondered if you could help! Im losing oil on my 1.8 8v. I serviced it and then over the course of about two months it has dropped from just below the max to just below the minimum! I looked underneath and realised the sump had some oil splatters on it and was wondering if anyone knew whether or not it was a common problem for the sump gaskets to split/disintergrate? Thanks a lot.

I think the later RSI's used a sealant type stuff instead of a proper gasket so its possible.

Whats the milage on it?

If you're lucky its just the sump, if you're unlucky it could be the crank seal.

Have you checked you put the right kind of washer back on when you took off the sump plug?

Mark 1s require a washer with an inner rubber washer seal on it.

Happened to me, went to renault and cost me 78p per washer.
