mk2 ph2 1.4 idling very low

hi all

excuse my typing cos i just had an op on my hand so i'm 1 handed atm. can't drive for a couple of weeks either

i've got a 53 reg 1.4 dynamique which idles really slowly - doesn't actually stall but feels quite lumpy. rev counter says about 500rpm. does anyone know what this could be? car is still under warranty and i want the sunroof looking at anyway, should i mention this at the dealer too?

would like to get it sorted whilst i can't use it.

any ideas you lovely people?

yeah just tell the dealer, they should be able to look at it with diagnostics equipment and adjust the idle if needed.

my 1.2 16v idles at about 500rpm and it doesnt feel as smoth as it does when its cold and idles at say 600-1500rpm

not sure what mine idles at normally but sometimes it does seem to chug a bit, but it only does it now and then.

my 1.4 16v 53 plate is the same. Bit lumpy idle but when an engine revs low you expect it... especially on a 4 pot. Unless the car shudders a lot its not a problem. From cold mine tends to idle at just under 1k...

They should idle about 800rpm give or take 50rpm and thats with A/C off etc.
I don't know how you think its idling at 500rpm as the gauge doesn't read that low though.

err.... needle between 1000 and 0..... don't take a genius to see that is 500rpm.

was just going to say that mine sits at halfway between 1k and 0 so im assuming 500rpm?!

yep, mine's halfway between 0 and 1000 too.
