Mk2 side-strip removal - the things just won't budge!

Potentially, could this be down to nearly 10 years worth of build-up from road crap, rain and muck that has ran over the strips themselves?

The threads I've read on here simply state a slide-back motion is required - yet I can't get them to move. Well, the passenger side anyway, as that's the only one I've tried for the last hour.

I've even removed that little bung from inside the edge of the door and gently tried to manoeuvre that little clip back - thinking that the others would follow suit. Not a chance. I think I'm getting a little more frustrated in the fact that to slide them back, requires the door to be open and then you can't apply much pressure because the door is open - grrrrrr!

I had two little jobs planned for the car today and neither has worked. Bah. :(

You just need to lever them.

Get a screw driver behind it or a really solid plastic trim tool.

There is a small plastic peg on each strip that stops them sliding off that you need to depress . look along the bottom of each strip & you will see a small cut out that's were the locking pin is ,

For the first time I took mine off I removed the bullet, got a screw driver and wrapped it in a microfibre cloth.. Then where the bullet was is some holes, put in the screwdriver straight then push the whole thing the direction it comes off and it should just click out. Hard to explain really!

Cheers guys.

Just so I know I'm doing things right, do I NOT take off the side-strips in order to make access to the bullets easier then?

It is the bullets alone that I want to exchange. Ideally, I wanted to remove both the strips and the bullets and wipe the crap from behind while I was there.

Cheers,

Get a bit of wood or something similar .. wrap it in a microfibre or similar .. put it to the front end of the long strip and knock it with a hammer gently - tap it parallel with the door panel.

For the rear one, that comes forward....

Simples.

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago . I wanted to change my bullets but 8 and half years of s**t was holding them on . I took the black grommets out and pushed the side strip through the hole with a screw driver so it was lifting it off the door slightly and at the same time pushed the side strip back , eventually it came off . After i cleaned all the crap off , they came off easily after that.

I took mine off 2002 car the other day and they just came off. Front one goes back and back one goes forward

Muscles, push towards the back of the car

That's the bit that scares me Dan. I've been flexing the door panel when pushing back and my brain is thinking I'm doing it wrong, to simply slide a bit of plastic back.

If you slide it back, how do you apply the pressure with the door open?

If you've removed the rear one you can do it with the door shut ;)

You are all a bunch of cowboys, removing the door ones is simple, open the door and look for the black grommet, take it off look down inside the hole and you will see the tab you need to push out with a screwdriver, then it slide off, the one on the rear of the car, look under the strip nearest the door and u will see a slit in the strip, get a small screwdriver and push it in and leaver out the tab then slide off, simples
