Modifying 172/182 Suspension to Fit Cup-Pack?

What would need to be done for this to work exactly?

Can the actual suspension components be machined so that the different hub spacing can be accomodated?

For example, if you really wanted to fit Bilstein's, KW's, or FK Konigsports coilovers (normal 1*2 fitment only), to a Trophy.

Obviously the other route would be swop driveshafts/hubs, but then, at a guess you would lose some of the wider track?

machine the bolt spacing iirc mate. Not sure if it's ideal though as there likelihood for the bolts to move i'd imagine. Considering how long the germans are taking with Freds V2's i'd imagine there might be more to it than that :S

I've been considering this the past few months to a set of Koni's.

IIRC the differences are the bolt spacing, but I'm also lead to believe the thickness of the hub that slides up into the strut? hopefully someone can confirm this.

I was thinking of making a steel template from an OE cup strut to use to re-drill the newer hole in the non cup strut, I know there's not much in it but hopefully just drilling a whole instead of slotting it may help hold it's position.

6 month bump ;)

You could swap over to 172 hubs, but shaft will need changing too. It's making the track more narrow though, although you could fix that with spacers.

Yes this can be done.
What i'd done to my cup racer suspension (65mm spacing) to fit my cup packed (60mm spacing) was file the top bolt hole (elongate) and spot weld 4 washers on the inside to take up the 4mm extra width play.

All you'd have to do is elongate the top hole and spot weld washers on the outside (top holes only) this will be more than enough to stop the suspension from moving when bolting it all up.

^ I havn't had any problems with mine.

As long as you elongate the hole upwards/downwards it won't affect the camber.

If its Bilsteins you can probably get new strut casings so they it will go on a cup packed car.
