Oh and @Brigsy it because of your thread on turborenault you have given me confidence to do the lower swivels at home - so a big thank you matey.
Oh and I hope that Tungy 5 is going well - I chatted to you last year in KFC car park of the M1 near Chesterfield :)

Have you got a press also to do the wheel bearings? I have got some new wheel bearings (cost £40) also but was going to take them to a willing garage to sort them for me. As said I think I can do the lower swivels myself.
I have a pair of spare hubs ready for the rebuild.
I've got one at my dads but that's no use to me

It's on the list of "tools to buy when I get paid on Friday"😂😂

Class that was on the way back from Retro show (y) gtt is sat in the garage waiting for the lockdown to finish, a couple of small jobs to do but nothing too bad. Still got your gtt?

Swivel bearings are dead easy to do, ive just refurbished a set of hubs for my kangoo, some pics in the thread. A lot of the time if there is no play and the lower bearings are just stiff, you can simply regrease and refit and they will be fine. No special tools needed at all.

Grease bolts are a good upgrade for future maintenance too, and cheap enough to buy.

If you need any advice or stuck just give me a shout.

Are they expensive? I was going to find a place local to me and get them to sort them.

Thanks buddy :) yes I still have my GTT but still sat in the garage :(

Where do you get the grease bolts from? I have checked but couldn’t find any.

Thanks.

Oil service and filter clean today and simple I thought but the oil filter was an absolute b@stard to remove!

New parts:

Engine covers removed - v6 jigsaw :)

Oil filter battle! Oil cooler pipe work in the way (even moving out of the way) and little room and my chain removal tool just chewing the filter up. I ended up buying a claw tool from euro - bought at 1pm and with me at 3pm.
One mangled filter:

Filter removed and loads of room - not!!

All done, cleaned up and back together:

Next job is to tidy up and reattach the engine under tray and pop the pollen filter in.

The press I'm looking at is £150 but I'm having a look about for a bigger one maybe second hand lol

That’s not to bad buddy. I think you will get plenty of business.

V6 looks like a nightmare to work on. Ive heard cambelt is great fun!

Cambelt is usually engine out job but can be done insitu by undoing the mounts and tilting it but is very tricky!
The main problem we are having is getting spare parts, hence why most are very rarely seen and driven steadily :)

Ooh yess a 19 16v would be good. I used to work with a guy who had one from new on a j reg. He had it 20 years!

@mossyv6 I always wanted a white 5 but had 2 tungys and an electric blue. When you've had enough of it I'll happily sell a kidney for it 😂👍.

Love the pop out rear quarter windows on these I like the white the most even more than my raider I had back in 1994. Super cars mate , stunning 👍

I quite like 19 16v mate - phase 1 3 door hatch in 449 blue :)
View attachment 1388611

A bloke round near me has this for a daily. God knows what he has tucked away in a garage if he drives round in a R19 16v everyday
I offered to buy this one as he saw me in my 172 one day.

Said he was gonna be buried in it😥😂 Shame because it needs some proper love

I think my mrs would genuinely smother me in my sleep though. And not with her chest either unfortunately🙄😂

Thank you. And yes agreed :)

Thanks mate. If I get furloughed again for another 3 weeks I am going to crack on to see if I can get it running again.

Finally got my replacement drivers side hub from Renparts - only took 3 weeks! Very good replacement actually with decent swivel bearing so popped it on and refurb my original as the swivel is sticking.

A common problem with the megane scuttle area is the fabric card scuttle divider deforms, breaks and saga and looks shite, so did a wee mod:

07B13424-4461-4507-9093-3E672F3DD80F.jpeg

Much better :)

Next issue was the battery cover - it doesn’t fit the original bracket :(
So I had to make up a bracket:
73BBEAF5-7F3A-4A73-8EE5-7CA9EEA64BD3.jpeg

725D8ABB-FC6F-4CB2-8D65-A4E30878C32E.jpeg

But all done and everything back together:

60349A33-685A-423B-8310-EF997FF67886.jpeg

Now need to find an original intercooler pipe so the blue dump valve can be removed!

That looks wicked!!

I need to make one of those brakes for my battery cover, it currently has 2 cable ties holding it down! And that matting idea is gold! Mine flops around like a jumbo sausage in a chip shop

Engine bay looks great. I prefer the 225 engine with all the oem plastic covers on, look miles better.

Thanks mate.
It’s strange as I see a lot of early meggy’s with battery covers but the 3 I have owned have all had to be retro fitted.
Yes the floppy scuttle wall is a royal pain the arse - hopefully this will hold up.

Yes the engine is not the prettiest at all - these covers make the engine look so much better and tidier :)

I'm gonna be copying both of those things on my car tbh mate

Both really good ideas!
