All it is is the Rubber is not tied to the housing a 2 min job.
and that includes getting it on the ramps.

if it hasnt split then you should be able to refit it, just repack it with grease and fit some jubilee clips around it, you can do it yourself but its messy, or a garage will do it for 1hours labour so about £50

if it is just the rubber gaitor thats come loose that's harsh to fail it

from what my mot tester told me they can spend a certain amount of time during the mot to rectify any small problems (not long mind)

my 106 was going to fail on o/s brake flexi kinking on full lock, so whilst he was going round the other side i whipped the wheel off and sorted it out. job done :D

Just called them...

It hasn't cracked or split, its come off... What would be involved for me to do? He said that the rubber had gone quite hard so fitting the same one would be a problem... being fobbed off here?

cheap for fitting a new cv boot tbh. Though you MAY be able to stil get a metal tie from a local motor factors for 2 quid and secure it.

if it hasnt split then it should be fine, jack the car up so you can work under it safely (use axel stands) wear some gloves as you will get covered in crap, stuff a load of grease back into the gator, push it back over towards the wheel till in the corrent place then secure in place with a jubilee clip.

something like this
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_246319_langId_-1_categoryId_165705

and this (jubilee clip) they do them in halfords but couldnt find them on the website, you will need to make sure you get the right size one, you do them up with a screw driver and it makes the ring get tighter
