Multichanger Bracket

  RS Clio 182

Does any1 know if u can buy a bracket for installing a multichanger under the passengers seat in a clio 03? I have an Alpine S634 multichanger and dont fancy removing the seat to install so would rather fit the unit onto a bracket that uses the existing screws for the compartment thingy that comes with the car. What comes with the 172 multichanger?

cheers

The 172 multichanger is an Alpine deal but Im not sure which model.

On the changer casing there are four holes - two each side - that accept (10mm?) thread bolts. On the floor visible through the carpet are four captive nuts - two front and two rear (to accept 10mm bolts). The bracket is then a fairly simple metal affair that uses all these holes to clamp to the changer and mount to the floor. Imagine an H where the tops and bottoms mount to the floor; the horizontal line (the width of the changer) clamps to the changer at the sides. The only thing to note is that the vertical bars follow the contour of the floor.

Im picking up a Mk1 172 a week on Sat. with the factory install CD changer under the drivers seat - am I right in thinking that the drivers seat doesnt move forward to allow passengers into the rear of the car when the CD changer is in place??? The reason I ask is because the seat didnt move at all when I tried it and the car dealer didnt really know if the seat should be locked down or not.

Thanks in advance for the help guys.

No idea about the part number or whether you can buy one - they do exist though so I would have thought you can!

Suggest you try calling a friendly Renault dealer so they can look at their parts list. You could do a lot worse than give Marchants a call (http://www.marchants.co.uk/http://www.marchants.co.uk/) on 01892 524655 who are very helpful. Also look at http://www.incardiscount.co.uk/acatalog/RENAULT.htmlhttp://www.incardiscount.co.uk/acatalog/RENAULT.html for instance - the fact they do a CD changer for Renault means they may do you the bracket(?)

Stephen: Re. sliding the seat forward - yes you definitely can! Lever on side of seat (nearest the door!) allows seat to slide and tilt forward so passengers can get into the back. This does not expose the CD unit which is only very small (around 80% the size of an A4 piece of paper) i.e. the CD changer is always under the seat even when its slid. FYI the drivers seat also has adjustments for height and lumber support (as well as the usual obvious tilt and distance-from-wheel levers).

Thanks for the help Scott, sounds like the lever on the seat might be dodgy I think it may have been rounded off cause when I tried to turn the lever it spun around the bolt that unlocks the seats postion and allows it to move forward - I may have to get a new lever from the scrap yard or somewhere like that.

It may be too late if youre picking up the car on Sat but Id seriously be tempted to get the dealer to fix it. If you reckon its a simple fix and its just a handle job then fine but if the mechanism is buggered and you have to be trying to fix that youre into dodgy territory what with the side airbags etc. [Or just put up with it and get people to climb in from the passenger side ;)].
