Haha I put it back to standard which caused more problems than it was worth and just bought another car and forgot about it started work on her again though ..... Covering up a little rust was a cleaver idea :banghead:

Best bet IMO is put a garret gt2560r on it along with supporting mods inc mega squirt and you will have one he'll of a nice set up with minimal lag, £2k upwards though if you want the best or cheap option would be a Subaru td04 turbo which a few people use for cheap budget FI.

That all my old one needed but I wanted the best parts and would of set me back £2k+ easy, so broke it as got the Clio cheap ish and didn't want 2 toys so 1 had to go.

Still miss it tbh, sublime handling it was

Looks great mate. I think a boosted or sc would be a proper weapon on track. Standard they seem pretty gutless.

Maybe compared to what you are used to, but the sensation of speed is much greater than any car I have ever driven before.

I dont find my car to be "slow" but its certainly not "fast" either.

Being sat so much closer to the ground than you are in a shopping hatchback (even one that's slammed) gives a much bigger sensation of speed.

For instance I went and tested one of those TTE Corollas when I had my last MX-5 (and that was the 128hp 1.8) and it 'felt' no quicker at all. Until I looked down and saw I was going a lot faster than I thought.

And therein lies the rub.

I could be doing 60 in Listerine and still be busy behind the wheel, whereas in the old 172 I could be doing comfortably more and between the extra sound deadening, cruise control and being sat (what seems like) another 2 miles in the air, and still not be bothered.

Which, on some days is what you want (i.e. a long haul down to The Unit), but on others you dont (A run around the coastal roads of Norfolk, or around the choppy b-roads of the Fens).

BUt as for 180hp in 1500kg, surely that's the stats for a DCi replica yeh? ;)

What an unusual stat to pull out. What are you comparing it to that weighs 1500kgs?

Apologies if I've misread something there.

Just a general observation mate, no particular car. Hope you didn't think I meant a Clio?

I.e some audis 2.0 tsfi, new focus 1.6 (180hp), some modern diesels also, impreza new ages weigh similar but a bit more hp stock. There's a few cars out there that weigh similar with similar hp.

So basically same bhp per ton

Fair enough. Just wondered if it was a direct comparison.

I always found my gf's mk2.5 1.8 quite slow, but never completely breathless. Like you say, low down and playful but never going to set the world alight.

My 240bhp one was even with an SLK55 to 128, where I ran out of revs in 5th....
