MX5 Number 2.

I've got a halfords one you can lend if you can get to kks tonight. Bet you don't check this thread before leaving lol

Ah f**k. Wouldn't have mattered anyway - the "anti-theft" Wheel nut on that wheel is f**ked. So I've given up. Pissed off. Thanks for the offer though Scott!

I think I preferred the TSW's mate

I absolutely hated them!
15 inches is too much for me, and they weigh a ton in comparison! Only thing that's a bit s**t about the BBS's is that they have an offset of about ET45... Considering people run ET0 with an 8inch wheel, that's fairly crap! I've already found some spacers, it's just saving up for them now...

As you can see - it's just completely f**ked. Can't get a grip on it - the wrench ends up coming out towards you and so it's just rounding more and more.

Any ideas on how the f**k to get it off?
I absolutely hate these nuts. They're s**te.

It's got like a sleeve on the outside of the actual nut that just spins round - plus there's f**k all space inside the hole. I know what you mean, but the nut itself is just round - not nut shaped.. if you see what I mean? lol

Ah f**k, spinning sleeves are a t**t. You need the other kind of locking nut remover. It has a metal insert that moulds to the lock pattern with a bit of persuasion, then you use an impact drive to shock it out.

Whoever invented anti-theft bolts needs f**king shooting - they're all made out of cheese and never work properly.

I'm going to buy a set of new nuts and just destroy the f**ker.

I don't really know what else to do. I'm not buying stuff if it might not work.. just going to buy 16x new open ended nuts - like it should have - and take it somewhere where they can get it out. CBA!

ACE! I give it 5 mins till you're skint again.

FLOL I'm already skint... But I can't not get them. And the sooner I do it, the less painful it'll be in the future. Get the most expensive thing out of the way - like Seb has done!
Also, if DW lets me do finance on them, it's only going to be £250, then £22 a month for decent coilovers. I think that's a good deal tbh. Best way for me to do it anyway, it means I can still eat for the rest of the month! LOL

When that happened on my 1.2, I went to a garage and they got a MASSIVE breaker bar out and worked straight away.

Hello coilovers :D

Yeah, I bought a 24" breaker bar from Halfords tonight - it's not getting it undone that's the issue, it's trying to force the socket into the nut so it doesn't move whilst turning it - nigh on impossible. I'll get it sorted though! I'll pay a visit to the wheel specialists tomorrow like Gaz suggested - see if they can help me out.

Just been for a quick drive and the difference is unbelievable! Feels properly nimble now, and rides so much nicer. It feels like it should. :approve:

Well, since I can't get the wheel off until the end of this week/however long nuts take to arrive, I thought I'd do something productive with the spare that I had.

Quick rub down, quick coat of primer, quick coat of Rays Racing Bronze. Awesome

I realise it's going to look s**te until it's on its arse; but that should be rather soon...

That locking nut should work on that bolt on there.

Just needs a lot of pressure on it, it's obviously already warped, but if you press hard enough on the bar as you try to turn it, it should be fine.

Man up ;)

Nice idea with the playing cards BTW.

I think what's happened is the holes that the socket go into have sloped outwards as they've been damaged - so if you put any sort of pressure turning them (which you have to apply lots due to being over-tightened), the wrench naturally comes out towards you. Other than using a clamp which I don't have, I'm not sure how to get enough force pressed onto it - and just trying by hand is probably going to make it worse. Just going to let a big manly chap with oil covered hands have a go at it; I'm far too weak :(

wow! that is a great choice of colour  got me thinking now lol

whats this like compared with halfords stuff?

Really nice to use, dries fairly quickly, but it absolutely f**king stinks! lol.
Seems to be a decent colour match though, just waiting for it to dry a wee bit more then going to add the lacquer. Not really sure it'll go with a red car, but f**k it! Bit more exciting than the Hammerite satin black I have.

You'll just continually f**k up the locking nut and it's key now it's started being chewed up

This. It's too far gone to just undo it.

Took a few more pictures of the wheel to try and get across the colour and finish - really really impressed with the Rays Racing Bronze! I think it looks stunning tbh.

Finish isn't the best/smoothest, but it's a damn sight better than the rotten old silver that was on it before. Much neater.

You should see my spray booth - on my balcony, gassing the rest of the apartment out! I'd get in so much s**t if anyone saw me... you're not allowed to hang your washing over the side - what are they going to say about spraying wheels FFS!

I'm going to wait until tomorrow to speak to them about "payment options". I'm hoping they will accept that I can give them £23 a month for the next 12 months, otherwise I'll have to wait a while longer!

After checking this: http://www.driftworks.com/shop/driftworks_finance_info/
I should qualify quite easily...

Really? Prefer the TSW's?
I got these because they're OEM wheels and they are hilariously light in comparison. Also, you can never really go wrong with a set of BBS's IMO - they're done to death, but they're quite a safe option.

How much are they then? £23 a month for a year is bloody cheap.

I think the BBS don't look the part now, but when combined with some epic lows they'll be spot on. TSW's are awful awful things.

£499.
Deposit of £245 (the maximum they let you pay) means 12 payments of £23.50ish. I want to pay as much as possible now, so that I'm not still paying out of my bottom in a years time!
You can put as little as £50 deposit on IIRC, but you end up paying quite a bit more in total, and something like £40 a month for a year.

The BBS look pony because they're wrapped in 185/60 tyres and they have an offset of ET45. Smaller tyres + 45mm spacers and it'll be reet!

The wheels look so much better Joe nice!

I've spent today collecting Tr Lane and Bride goodness ;)

Just a idea but either get some chemical metal and chemical metal the locking nut to the bolt (you'd need to play the waiting game till it cures properly, but should/might work), or get a friend to weld another bolt onto the locking nut. Could be tight to weld but it would work.

HSD DT's Adz, 14-clicks on the dampers instead of 16, and ever so slightly softer springs. Plus they're a slightly different design, but they go just as low and will perform almost as well, AFAIK.

LOL at 45mm spacers. I hated 25mm up front on the Nissan, never felt right.

F**k it! it's only like running a smaller offset wheel... As long as they're hubcentric they shouldn't be sooo bad. I had 25mm's on my Clio and never noticed the difference tbh.

NICE! I wish I had the cash for Bride gear... £80 Cobra Imola 2 FTW!

Space is the only real issue; I can't even fit the standard wheel brace into the nut hole, so trying anything like that may prove tricky...
