My 172 Project

  Clio Sport 172
Thought I would start my own progress thread now that I have decided too keep it and have made a few changes since I have had it.

Basically I bought the car from Taunton, Somerset. Car was pretty much standard apart from a k&n air filter and some chavy 16v badges and a motorsport badge. Anyway this is what It looked like when I bought it

Then it started too let me down. Words cannot describe how gutted I actually was. I was driving home and the car suddenly jumped and jerked and I suddenly had a complete loss of power and the sound was terrible. Here is a quick small video I took at the time

After spending £350 for the new cambelt/aux belt, which is a very very good price considering all the work that was envolved. The 172 let me down AGAIN!. Again a complete lack of power and the car would struggle to get over 30mph and was constantly misfiring UH OH!. Managed too get this sorted again and it turned out too be the coilpack. Also had new spark plugs too.

After having the car for only a few months I had already spent nearly £500 just on repairs. I was not best impressed and was seriously considering selling it. I decided too keep it and gave it a few cheap mods as I was on a budget due too the last few months. I bought some LED sidelights too match the xenon lights and added some clear side repeaters. I also sent MIDDO my fog surrounds too be colour coded (something a bit different) and a good old fasion engine clean.
This is how it looked.

Then yes!!! Another let down. At this rate I was beginning too think that the car just wasn’t for me. My passenger headlight seemed too get a bit misty. I thought nothing of it. Then the whole passenger headlight just would not come on. I tried changing the fuse and still no good. Swapped the bulbs over and still nothing. Took it too Renault who said it was the ballast unit and that I would need a new headlight unit too as it was misting up. This set me back £500. What a kick in the teeth. Anyway I paid Renault the money and got it back in 3 days.

Then a few weeks later. Someone decided too go into my car causing quite a bit of damage too the rear bumper. They then drove off

So my clio ownership has not gone too great to be honest. I did stick it on the market for a few weeks after I fixed the headlight but had hardly any interest at all. I decided once and for all too keep the car. I am very determind too get this car MINT! Since the lights the car has done me proud and now drives excellent. I have just purchased Magnecor HT Leads and a Cup Spoiler. Both will be fitted this week. I have also painted my callipers silver and added some mintex pads all round :)

Updates to follow

You do know you could have got a new headlight with all the bits for only £150?

Good lokking car with some nice mods planned.

To be honest I took it too a renault specialist and they wouldn't touch it. So I took it straight to Renault as the police did pull me over and said if they catch me again with 1 headlight I would be fined. So I wanted too get it sorted asap. Renault was the best bet at the time

Update
Been busy this week. Got the BMC CDA fitted with the new cold air feed on. Not 100% happy where the air feed is at the minute but it will be changed too the front grille. No pics of the CDA as I think everyone knows what they look like by now.
On the other hand I have had my spoiler back from Lloyds today. Very happy yet again with the finish and a top job guys thanks! Sorry about the lack of quality on the images. I am still getting used too all the settings on my new canon powershot g9 :headno:

Looks great bud.

Where did you get the spoiler ?

As i'm on the look out for one ;)

It was an eBay job. :) I was just in the right place at the right time really. I was looking for one for ages though. The only other option was too buy it from Renault but I can remember people saying it was expensive.

nice mate. i've spent lots on mine but shes almost there. the minter it gets the pickyer i become lol. worth every penny for the grin factor. and the look on beemer/audi/merc drivers cfaces as the clio leaves them for dust lol keep plodding they come good eventually

  Audi TT 3.2 V6
this was for sale when i was looking at buying an RS, i did toy with the idea of taking a trip to somerset to view it. Kinda glad i didnt now. Sorry youve had such a bad run of luck, the coilpack is a pretty common problem on Renaults and can go anywere, anytime at any age it seems. The headlight is just unlucky realy as i dont think they tend to go. Hope you now have a good run of trouble free motoring. They are great cars when theyre running right though arent they?
