My 182 - FCS Show Prep and on the Day Cleaning

  106 GTi
Did not have time to post this before the show, avoiding rain showers trying to prep the car ready (Hence no time to do any during pics) but a few people have asked so here it is.

Washed, dried etc. Claying was not needed.

PAINTWORK

Machine Polished mainly with Menzerna Final Finish PO106FA and a Sonus SFX White Polishing Pad, followed by Menzerna Final Finish PO85RD on a Sonus SFX Blue Finishing Pad. Some areas such as the bonnet needed some more attention so Menzerna Intensive Polish (PO85RD 3.01) was used on a Menzerna Polishing Pad first. The car was then Glazed by machine using a Black LC Pad and Clearkote Vanilla/Red Machine Glaze mix.

Full Sized pads where used on the Bonnet, Doors, Roof and Quarters. Spot 4 inch pads for the Rear Spoiler, Tailgate, Front Wings, Lower Doors & Quarters and Front and Rear Valences.

Paintwork prepared for wax with Swissvax Cleaner Fluid by hand to the whole car. As the car was polished in parts and not one hit, Swissvax Onyx was applied to the panels as they where finished. Over the next few weeks the car was then waxed with Zymol Concours, Swissvax Best of Show, and thanks to Brazo the final coat of Wax was Zymol Destiny which the car was wearing for the show. Final Wipe down with GG Synthetic Quick Detailer.

BODYWORK AND TRIM

Headlights machine polished with Menzerna Final Finish PO85RD on a finishing pad. Textured trim dressed with Autoglym Bumper Care Gel, smooth trim with Einszett Vinyl and Rubber. Metalwork polished with Meguiars NXT metal Polish.

ENGINE BAY

Paintwork polished with Klasse All in One, Metalwork Meguiars NXT metal Polish, Plastics and Rubber with Einszett Vinyl and Rubber dressing.

WHEELS AND ARCHES

Wheels removed, polished inside with Rimwax and sealed with 2 coats of Poorboys Wheel Sealant. Exterior faces sealed with Swissvax Autobahn Wheel Sealant.

Tyres cleaned with Meguiars APC 10:1 and treated with Swissvax Penu.

Arches scrubbed with a strong mix of Meguiars Hyperwash, and the plastic arch liners treated with Autoglym Bumper Car Gel.

GLASS

Cleaned inside and out with glass cleaner and then Zymol HD Cleanse.
Exterior Glass expect front screen waxed with Zymol Titanium. Front screen treated to Duragloss Rain Repel.

INTERIOR

Wipe down with a damp microfiber cloth to all plastics, leather and Alcantara. Dashboard and plastics protected with Poorboys Natural Look and a final wipe down with Meguiars Interior Quick Detailer. Leather conditioned with Zaino Z10.

Needless to say on the way to the show it rained from the moment it came out of the garage so it all began again at Rockingham, car wash now grey on arrival at the show ! The washing and clean up began (hence the pics you saw on here after!)

AT THE SHOW!!!!

Paintwork and Glass - Washed using 20 litres of water from in the boot lol and Quick and Easy Rinseless Wash and the two bucket method. Dried with a Micropak Ultra Soft Drying Towel. Paintwork QD'd with Zymol Detail Spray and finished with Zymol Field Glaze Spray Wax.

Wheels and arches washed with Meguiars Shampoo Plus. Dryed with a AG Chamois.

Glass cleaned with Clearkote Quickshine.

Smooth trim redressed with Einszett Vinyl and Rubber Care aswell as the engine bay plastics. Tyres and Wheel arches with Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber care.

2 hours later - Job done ....

Cheers - The original scratch X does not work well by PC, the new one has been reformulated, when worked it will start to go clear and translucent looking so you will struggle to see it on the paint.

Looks great, good write up too. Just a shame it wasn't sunnier to show off the shine a bit more though!

Did the Destiny add a lot to the looks you notice?

Hard to tell- car looked great in the sun on the Sat, but any better than the BOS not sure. Was easier on than the Concours and did not do the out gassing thing. Actually using it in the rain it beads even better than the BOS. After washing the car last night even without QD'ing it looks as good as when just applied.

looks amazing mate!

i wouldnt know where to start with all that! think il just stick with a wash once a week and a polish now and then!

i do like to keep my car clean, but i just use any products really, usually just go to halfords when iv ran out and never seem to stick with any type of shampoo or polish!

my car is silver so is there much benefit to be gained?!

i do want to clay the 182 sometime soon as there seems to be tar and other bits stuck around the wheel arches!

Ha well I wasn't really thinking of buying the Destiny - think the Onyx is pushing the boat out lol. Would be good to see some glory shot though!

I'm waiting for the car to get resprayed at the front (after having words with the bodyshop guy today first!:dead:) and want to get some decent shots of the Clio on a location other than my drive after a clean!

Silver is harder to see the results at it reflects the light so much so is hard to achieve the gloss and depth of darker colours.

Clay is a worth while step on all colours though to get the paint properly clean.

Hopefully the sun will be out at the weekend.

Hope you get the front end all sorted.

What do you do to get around and under the badges on the boot (the clio badge, the renault badge etc)?

Do you pull them off, or work around them??

  106 GTi
Just use a cloth and some quick detailer and a soft brush. Although on Sunday I just left the dirt round them!

I did indeed, considering what it looked like on Sat night I was gutted hen I arrived at Rockingham

what was the white foamy stuff you covered your tyres in mate?

seemed to do a good job!

Just Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber sprayed on rather liberally, took ages to dry though! Looks great when used at shows etc and left just to dry, shame it does not last long in day to day use.

Only just noticed this: 5th picture down there's a silver clio in the background. Looks like someone has lifted the rear off the ground????
