My circuit project, Clio 1, 1.8/2.0.

  Circuit Clio 1.8/2.0
Hi everyone, here my project.

I am driving a circuit build Clio. First it was my daily, but after a crash on circuit Zandvoort we decided to keep this as a race-car.

First a little resume of what we did to the car before the crash:

Finally.. after weeks of almost every night working on the Clio..

The first time for the MOT: Passed!

Proud of my car!

After that.. friends of mine race.. so I thought.. let's give that a shot..

So bought some tickets for 'free driving'.

I thought I wasn't showing off enough with my car.. so I made some parts pink! And offcourse I had to race a little bit more..

And more..

Bought some original Speedline rims and offcourse they had to be made pink..

I make my own stickers, so I had to make myself some advertising:

But.. since it was an completely original car.. Not lowered (is that how you say it?), but I had the backseat removed and the spare wheel.. So I had not the usual of weight in the back. And yes.. It had to go wrong someday.

And it did. I was driving with a speed of something about 160 km/ph, and on the Zandvoort track we have a bump that's called 'Scheivlak'. It's known as a bump where a lot of people crash. So the car broke out, I could not correct it and went into the gravel, straight to the guardrail. Unfortunately I was still trying to correct the car, scooped gravel and made a roll over.

Well pictures say alot more then some words:

I was completely constricted by the ambulance staff and was not allowed to move any more, so some luck: I did not suffer from a 'lap of shame "lol.

And for now.. we've also placed the battery in the back of the car and now we are making an special box to replace the air filter into the space of my headlight. Today I also received my new chip for the car, this week we are going to do the finishing touch. This Sunday I am testing the car in Assen on the motorcircuit there. And the 16th of September I am competing in Time Attack (the Dutch version of it). It's going the be the first time for me, so I'm pretty nervous tho!

Let me know what you think of the car, I'm very curious :)

Welcome to CS from another Caged 2.0 Mk1!

Cant believe you got that repaired most would of written it off!

  Circuit Clio 1.8/2.0
Thanks!!
Well, original it is an 1.8, but is it drilled up (is that correct?) to an 2.0 and there has been some other stuff done to it, but I really dont know now how to say that in English..
On the track I'm faster than an Williams and I'm giving the Clio V6 a really hard time :p And that was before the crash, so I'm very curious how it's going to be this Sunday :)

Great little track car, and a great effort from your dad brining the car back to life after the roll.

Think you mean "Bored out" which is unusual with the F7p as the F7R is a far far cheaper modification and comes with a better head and valve set up!

Have you fitted "widetrack" to the front suspension (williams set up) it makes a BIG difference!

  Circuit Clio 1.8/2.0
Thanks all!

@Zmaster2k: yeah I probably mean that.. lol. Sorry for that, didn't know the translation from Dutch. Well the builder of the engine says it has to have about 170/180 hp. No I haven't fitted widetrack yet.. But that is still something on my to-do list. Just like a lot of other stuff (Clio 2 RS brakes, black Powerflex, Widetrack etc.)

  Lunar Mk1 & Flamer
Lol dont apologise your English is much better than my Dutch lol!

In my honest opinion the widetrack is as good as the f7r!

170-180bhp?
In my experience you will be hard pushed to get that without Cams and head Work and a good re-map

My set up :-
F7R 2.0
piper vernier pullies
kent Rn2002 cams
williams manifold
decat and mongoose exhaust system
Omex 600

I'll be happy with 175bhp

Love the fact that u keep rebuilding it, even after that massive off. Respect.

I had those side skirts on my 16v - prima racing arent they?

LOL okay, well it's just what they have told me. :)

I have the catcams 5502213 (286 degrees) here ready to install them in the winter :)

Yesterday I went to TT Circuit Assen to test the car. Just before the first session, I got stinged by a wasp in my finger.. (joy!).. First a friend of mine was the driver and I was the co-driver, just to see how the car felt, he has more experience then I do so..: Very slippery, very nervous and very low grip.. After a couple of rounds we switched places, my lord I was so afraid. I haven't been driving since the accident.. And I honestly thought after the first few rounds.. I quit. I'm done. I'm too scared, I don't want to race anymore. I was so scared and I was so mad at myself I was so afraid.

We found out that my spare set of tires (Toyo R888) had one flat tire.. so we couldn't change them.. the temperature of the engine was running high.. Saturday we found that the dynamo wasn't recharging the battery.. So we were constantly changing them and recharging them by wire.. I was so done... I said: I'll try one more time, first I'll let my boyfriend drive, he has some more experience with FWD.. so we'll see.
After a few rounds we switched places again and with some tips and calming words I slowely started to get more faith in the car, even with the grip I barely had..

I drove the 3rd session myself (with my boyfriend as co-driver) and when I got out, I was smiling again! The trust in the car came back and now I'm really looking forward to Time Attack on the 16th. And yes, I will be driving on other tires.. because this is really dramatic..I'm so glad I pushed myself to drive the second session :approve:

The little monster is ready for tomorrow.. Only I think I'm not yet... lol. Nervous!

My dad made an cold air box, because orignally the filter is behind the radiator.

What we did today:

- Different chip
- Cold air box
- Toyo tires
- Removed the second seat
- fire extinguisher
- Kill-switch on the outside of the car.

That's about it what we did nog for Zandvoort.

Well, my first Time Attack is done!

The first time racing that track after my crash.. so I had the fealing I was nearly passing out of fear before my first lap there. I was really, really scared. More scared than a couple of weeks ago on the track of Assen, because on this track is the Scheivlak Corner... the corner where everything went wrong last time.

So, my last personal record @ Zandvoort was 2:28.... terrible...

I started on 2:29.., after a few laps I was on 2:25... and my fastest lap in the warming up was 2:21.. okay so 8 seconds faster then last time.. but still nog fast enough.. I wanted to finish today under the 2:20.. Had some problems with some one else in the warming up, he didn't seem to use the mirrors.. so he pushed me of the track, I kept on to the gas and when I came back on track I was still ahead of him LOL. I let him pass on the straight end, so I could give him the finger.. lol. I spoke to him later on that day, told him he should use his mirrors more, and he really thought he gave me more space for the turn.. so he also apologized to me. :) Also my tire pressure was a little bit high, so I just went in, the grip was all gone at some point.

Then the qualifying round, started at 2:29.. 2:25... Then when I finished, they gave me my lap time and I'm happy! I made a 2:18, so thats 10 secondes better then the last time I was on that track.

There is still so much fear unfortunatly, so I absolutely can go much faster, the car can handle more, just have to find my balls again. LOL.

Next year I will drive the whole Time Attack season, can't wait for it!!

So, let's blow off some dust of this thread.

At the moment we're busy making the car ready for the season that already has started (lol).

We have installed the 172 brake kit last saturday with DS3000, and also new DS2500 for the rear brakes.
I'm waiting for the head gasket set from England (much cheaper then here in Holland...) to start installing the 286 Catcams with the adjustable pulleys and the Williams manifold. We also made a catalyst (is that the correct word?) replacer. It sounds wayyyy better now!

Also the headlight cover is painted and in place!

Can't wait for it to be finished and take it to the dyno! The first event will be on 20th of march, so we have to hurry a little bit... But the custom ECU is also ready and on it's way to my place!

:clap::clap:

Here's some pictures and a little movie of the sound without the catalyst.

Re: Circuit Clio MK1 2.0, 286 Cat Cams.

Well, I think it's time for a satisfying update.

The new brakes inside the rims. Proper fit! :rasp:
37497437907064220885217.jpg

We changed the rear side windows for Lexan, we still need the front side windows to be done, but that will come after the 20th of may (the Time Attack race).

Dad started disassembling the head of the engine and rebuiling a different head with the pulleys and 286 cat cams, and a flowed cilinder head.

img20130430wa0006.jpg

img20130430wa0005.jpg

May 3rd, (Friday) he was up and running! We let it run warm and cool down. So Saturday dad only had to retighten the head bolts retighten after he'd (according to the form of the head gasket). That's where it completely went wrong..

When tightening the cylinder head bolts the threads in the lower block broke... That means... open everything up again! Menno was supposed to come over that Tuesday to give him the new chip with a mapping... So there was kind of a hurry..

Dad arranged a heli coil, so that monday (after the rebuiling, another thread broke..... so 2 heli coils!) evening, it was up and running again!

That Tuesday, Menno came over and it was running good!! :rasp:

BUT of course something went wrong. Suddenly there was a lot of ticking .. set the engine right off.. And yes .. rod bearings ..

AWESOME!
:dead:

94563638440186500906316.jpg

So.. AGAIN. We had to open it up. I already bought new ones (ARP conrod bolts and ACL Race Series rod bearings) at Biggelaar Motors in Made (My lord he has been such a big help for me!!) Friday we measured the crankshaft.. We also had to change that... So back again to Biggelaar for a new one. Meanwhile my dad started to remove the engine. When I came back, we lifted out together and last saturday we started to rebuild it again, together. Saturdaynight, it was up and running!!! AGAIN! And it sounded perfect. No strange sounds, no leaks... perfect!

24771538444450833813220.jpg

94180338444459500479027.jpg

So we shut it down and yesterday evening it was finally there... the dyno!

Menno came back over for mapping the car of the dyno this time.

I am pleased! The yellow line is a standard 2.0, the blue line is my car. It came out on 174hp with 193nm. :rasp:

Today we did the finishing touch: the stickers, lifted up the hood, 2nd seat removed and placed an fire extinguisher instead.

The Clio is on his way already with my boyfriend to Assen, dad and I will be heading over there Monday!

Because it's completely empty, the rear is very nervous. We tested the rear spoiler less agressive, but then still, the rear is tail-happy. Now we've set it more agressive and you really feel that it works. So it's all about the downforce :drunk:

  Circuit Clio 1.8/2.0
Not that I think someone even cares lately what we've been doing to the car.. but hey, we'll keep on posting ;)

The warm up was okay.. the tire pressure was waaaaay to high, so I was sliding all over the place. During my first lap in the qualification, the box mount completely broke off. So end of story for this Time Attack day.

Here are some pictures and a movie. I'm still very scared and most of the time I'm more busy with what is going on behind me than focussing on the car.. so there is so much more to win in laptiming.

Your dad is so lucky he has a daughter who is into cars! Most would have to give up getting dirty for playing babies when they have a daughter :p

That's a fairly big flat spot on that graph? Doesn't it suffer?

  Circuit Clio 1.8/2.0
You mean between the 2500 and 3800 rpm? No, well, if for road, yes. I just need to keep the car above 4000 rpm, but that's not so hard on the track :)

  172 Cup plus more
Nice pic if it lifting the back wheel.

Where in Nl are you? I have a place in Velp GLD and work from Rheden but not often there.

  Circuit Clio 1.8/2.0
Well, if you take some slower corners in 3rd gear yes. But I already had to shift to 2nd, so I have more traction and it will reduce my understeer. But now also to stay above the 4000 rpm, so I will come out of the corner faster.
