My Clio MK3 1.2 progress thread. Turini's, coilovers and more.

My mobile hates this site. Would love a mobile friendly version. Commenting is terrible on my wp8.

That's defo something to think about Matt!

Seats are incredible Tom/Kieran! Good improvement over Dynamique seats but super improvement over my old basic spec ones.

Haha great idea Tom. Have placed a few sticky pads down myself.
Good to hear from you Kieran! Hope we are all going CS ??

Bought my own low profile jack today. Painted brake drums Matt black and tomorrow re attatching my engine under tray that I must have left on a speed bump somewhere. Probs bought my own tray back from Ebay Pmsl. Be nice to not have my front wheel arch trim's flapping at 70mph!

And you mate. Havent bought my ticket yet but still plan to go :) Wish i had them seats mate, bet its a nice place to sit now!

They are amazing to sit in mate! Ask Tom lol. I'd advise anyone to get a hold of a set if you have the spare funds.

A bit to add to my thread Today. Couple of days ago I painted the rear drums from Red to Black. Looks much better now and less in your face Ricer/Tacky. Drums aren't really there to be shown off!

The Drum wasn't fully finished here.

Today I popped up to visit TomGarvie (check out his thread if you haven't already!) again in Nuneaton where he would show me how to do car washing/detailing with his new equipment and products. I got a little hands on myself but Tom did most of the hard work! :)

Thankfully it didn't rain though it looked like it was trying to!

You would have to be there in person to see what a difference it made to the paintwork on my Clio. The pictures we took at the end don't do it the justice it deserves. My car was covered in swirls and scratches from living with two cats and a year of cheap hand washes and the majority of them are all gone!

My car now doubles up as a mirror. Big thanks again mate you legend.

Oh and as I was on the way home I popped into Burger King at the Ricoh and parked next to my future car ;)

So glad your happy with your car mate, I'm ever so pleased with the result & atleast your paint is protected for a good while now!:)

kieran, his seats are so comfy, I'm very jealous!

I forgot to mention as I was driving home, especially down your street, I had a lot of people on the side walk looking at the car. Probably using it as a mirror haha!

Better example of the glass like paintwork.

haha better get used to it mate, your car is literally gleaming! Detailed black car's look amazing, as evidenced by your glass-effect paintwork!:)

Little bit of an update. I've got some pressed plates on now, replace my Halfords induction kit with a carbon fibre pipercross viper and tomorrow I should have my passenger projector headlight arrive and I will fit them both on Wednesday. Also ordered a set of the darker read aftermarket tail lights that I think look sick on a black car. Will update with pics over the next few days.

So yesterday my other projector headlight arrived so I went ahead at trying to fit them..

I got this far

wp20130423012.jpg

and attached my passenger projector headlight before I realised the drivers side unit had a different connector (assuming it's a 197 xenon unit?) and the internals were loose as a clip was missing lol.. Reflectors back on it is while I reorder the correct headlight!

Here's a pic of my old and new light.

Right so I haven't updated in a little while. I've fitted smd led bulbs in the interior light, side lights, boot and number plate lights. Last week I managed to track down a scrap yard and Renault specialist in Norwich that had a set of front RS 197 seats in stock. Drove 150 miles there today to pick them up and the rears (which I already had) were chucked in to so they will be up for sale. Not sure how I managed to fit it all in the car on top of my sub but I did it..

wp20130405002.jpg

Here they are fitted :) Love them!

wp20130405004.jpg

Just need to splice the side airbag wires again tomorrow and I'm all done :)

Were these seats a straight forward swap in?
Love what' you're doing to it!

cheers bud.

Easy swap mate. 4 large screws on either seat. Had to cut the airbag wire on my old seats though to separate them and then splice the wires together to my new seats. 4 of the wires under the drivers seat are the same colour though so it's trial and error until your airbag service warning light comes off the dashboard.
Need to update this thread soon. Done a few mods since.

How did you take off the centre panel on the dashboard?
Ive removed the ac ports and the dash trim just cant get the centre piece off where the stereo sits.

Been awhile since I updated this thread. Here's what my car looks like now.

Main changes are 17" Anthracite Speedline Corse Turinis, Clio 200 Seats (white trim) 197 Steering wheel and Black badges.

Haha thanks for the comments guys. I only got the 17" Turinis the other day. Collected them for £400 but needed center caps that cost me £44.

My 16" cup turini's desperately needed a refurb and at £30/40 per alloy there isn't much difference price wise after selling them for £225 and I gained an extra inch on the alloy. 17" is a sweet spot I think for a mk3.

That's really good...I've just been looking and they are nearly £1K brand new! :O

Im in exactly the same predicament at the mo,
Im getting a 2006 clio dynamique s 1.4 and only want to add the little bits to it, only difference is mine is champagne gold.

The wheels look unbelievable and ill be travelling down that path, 17s! Did you have to modify anything else to get the wheels to fit? Or have you just changed the coilovers to get that stance?

As for the interior, im after a set of 197 seats, did they just fit straight in?
Im leaving the mechanicals as is apart from a new air induction and brakes!

All the parts will be taken off in a year or so and put back on when i go to sell the car to get a 133/197

Haha this thread is a little old now, now own 3 clios! Got my mk3 but it's now completely standard which will be up for sale soon and a 1.2 mk2 for sale and now own a Racing Blue 182.

The wheels will fit straight on mate but you will have arch gap unless you have a set of coilovers, believe I had 20mm spacers on the rear. The seats will fit straight in, exact same runners as non sports. Just disconnect airbag wire from side of seat, 4 bolts out and done. I actually have a set of 197 seats sitting in my bedroom I need to get rid of. Not the best condition mind you but not really noticeable in the car. Miles better then standard and hold you so well, if you're just getting rid of the mk3 in a years time you can have them cheap if you're anywhere near Coventry and happily install them for you. @Stedaley

Ill have the 1.4 for a year until i come back after placement! and then i can do with it as i please!!

How much would you be looking for for them?

Right so after being a member for well over a year and having recently started to modify my car after my recent bump in the snow and icy weather last year (I buckled 2 alloys and bought a set of 172 cup turini's of a cs member) I've finally been pushed enough by TomGardie and Ksykes23 to create my own project thread (Thanks guys lol).

I would appreciate and iideas and feedback from the rest of the Cliosport community to aid me in my project.

So abit about me. I have always loved cars but for some reason held of taking my driving lessons untill I was 20 (2011).
Living in a shitty post code and my first year of insurance costing over £3000 for anything but a 0.9 ltr Citroen C1 put me off I guess untill I was earning a full time decent paypacket.
Anyhow while shopping around for cars on autotrader one day I noticed Clio mk3's were a decent price and looked miles better then the other cheap to insure hatchback I was looking at. A Citroen C2.
I told a work colleague who was also looking for a car that I was going to buy a Citroen C2 so he went ahead and bought one. I jumped ship and purchased a Clio Mk3 and my god am I glad I made that decision lol.

Anyway lets move onto the car, that's why you're in this thread after all

I purchased this Renault Clio 1.2 (75) Extreme Tom-Tom on the 7th of January 2012 and passed my test on the 24th of January. There was nothing EXTREME about it except the body roll. It's basically the poverty spec Expession model but with 15" alloys and blue themed upholstery on the seats. I was told it also came with a seperate Tom Tom device that plugged in but the previous owner, a little old lady in Edinburgh, had kept it. It wasn't untill the MK3 PH2's that the tom tom was built into the dashboard. Oh well

Here's how she looked in all her standard goodness.

My first experience in my own car was sitting in the passenger seat as my stepdad drove it home where I continued to stare at it every day untill I passed my test two weeks later lol. Here it is back home after a good clean..
Shortly after in February I joined up to this site and used it for the next year to build up my knowledge about Clio's with its vast source of info.
My original plan was to keep it for atleast a year standard (minus the sound system that I fitted before I passed my test) just to build up my NCB and then part exchange it in for a Racing Blue RS 197. With my first year of insurance costing £3200 and insurance for a 197 still about £2000 with 1yr ncb and still 2 years of fiance left to pay that plan went out of the window.

The car stayed standard except for my kenwood headunit, pioneer speaker and Edge sub. The only advantage to the standard ride height was that it made a excellent off roader!

Here it is after a good clean up!

52212529905810683125019.jpg

After 10 months of ownership I thought the sound system needed a bit of a upgrade so I purchased a VIBE Black Air 12" sub which I only ever have turned up half way so I may downsize again in the future.
wp20130102007.jpg

And a PIONEER MVH-8300BT headunit which can display 117 different colours to match the orange leds and it's 3" screen and comes with better sound options then my previous headunit. Which you will see later on.

In December 2012 after finishing my late night shift in Rugby and driving home in 6 inches of snow I slid on some black ice and hit a snow covered curb with both passenger side wheels. I buckled them both and bent my steering arm and other components. AA wanted £160 to tow me 12 miles. Lets just say that was the slowest and most challenging drive home ever.
Knowing I needed two replacement alloys and tyres I found it cheaper to purchase a set of used 172 cup Turini's with tyres of of a member on here. This is when I decided to just keep the car untill the time is right for a 197 and to modify my non sport and get it to a place where I am happy with it.

Here's a pic of when I just had my steering all fixed up and Turni's fitted. The snow had begun to melt by now.
wp20130123005.jpg

Being pretty skint after this untill next payday I decided to paint the front brake calipers red with a friend. We started this pretty late and it got dark really soon. To cope with the cold we thought straight drinking Russian standard vodka and Mickey fins would be a good idea. Next thing you know we're painting the rear brake drums red to at 1am in the morning and diving head first into snow. Somehow we didn't get paint all over the car and the wheels didnt fall off the next day. The brake drums are still painted at the moment. Let me know if I should keep them as they are or repaint them silver or black. Check that gap!

wp20130125003.jpg

A few weeks later after payday and selling stuff on ebay I went a little crazy with the mods. I got my RS Grille's which is one of the most effective mods for under £60.
wp20130216001.jpg

Next job was to get new brake pads as mine were nearly down to metal. The local garage wanted £160 to replace the two front pads where I kindly refused and told them to wait till next payday after just giving them £325 to fix my steering after the bump. I found a detailed guide to replacing the brake discs and pads on a Renault Laguna and figured I'd give it a shot. I bought a set of miltek brake discs and pads for £44 off ebay and succesfully fitted them within a couple of hours all by myself with no real knowledge. Tell a lie I did have a little help from a curious family member
wp20130216002p.jpg

Heko Wind deflectors on next
wp20130214007.jpg

Then my new Vibe Black Air tweeters that sit flush on the dashboard replacing my broken tweeter case.

wp20130306016.jpg

I also fitted a stubby aerial, Renault valve caps and the Holy grail of mods for non-sport mk3's arrived next

These sat around for a week untill I had Pro tyres in Warwick fit them. The guys are great and I would recommend the place to anyone, fixed my positive camber without camber bolts too. These completely transformed the car and I've had numerous comments on how smart the car looks now. First thing my Store manager said after noticing how different my car looked the next day was "Am I paying you too much?" Ha.

Can't recommend these highly enough. Firm but forgiving with hardly any body roll (my arse now slips out of the standard seats while cornering so I'm on the look out for some 197 seats) the car's handling and looks have been transformed! Heres how she sat the same afternoon back home.
