I've done quite a few, both military & civilian - producing a remembrance book at the end, with words and hymns.

Most stuff goes over my head if I don't know people however military things always seem to move me...

Sorry for your loss mate. I lost one of my best friends a few years ago when I was 21, properly hard to come to terms with. But you'll get there, remember the good times and why you were so close as mates.
It's nice you've been able to do something special for your all your memories, I know everyone will be proud of you.
