my new speakers sound poo!:(

  M140i/Orange 182
guys

needs some help..ive now had my rainbow SL130 installed in the front for 3 days now and they dont sound all that good tbh.

iam running them off my Alpine 9853 and it better with the standard fronts in
(ie volume could go much higher).

any suggestion what i could of done wrong or what needs to be done? i just though by upgrading stereo and front speakers would make the world of differents as i dont really wanna go down the sub and amp route!

help much Appreciated !

15-18 depending on what sort of tune it is, mx is enabled although i had been playing around with the eq i did put it back to normal and the volume could go slightly higher(not much)

to me it sounds like too much treble and not enuff bass...hmmm

  Polo + Micra
is there anything on the x-over to reduce the output to the tweets

mine sounds loads better with mx off

  M140i/Orange 182
no dont think so, i think i put everything back to zero, just wanted to start again.

do speakers have to be bed-in? my friends jbl sub sounded pants when he first got it installed, but now its just emence bass!

  Polo + Micra
well they should loosen up over time so it might improve a bit.

are you running any rear speakers as they can make it sound poo once the hu gets warm

i remember when i got my hifi speakers (B&W DM601 S3) they didnt sound all that great at first then once they were worn in they sounded alot better.

The volume problem could be them needing amped, upgrading to speakers with a cross over is going to need more power to amplify them.

ive still got the factory poo speakers in the rear, ive got it faded all to the front as i dont really have any passangers apart from me julie!

as for the volume problem amping did cross my mind...if that is the case then in the future ill wack the sl130's in the rear, get some rainbow "kicks" and amp the fookers.

You definitly havent cross wired them at all? One side set correctly to positive and negative and the other side the wiring swapped round to that positive is going to negative and negative to positive? That cancels out bass and makes them sound really tinny.

Putting them in phase, will get the problem your having. Swap the wires around and see if it helps. :)

Am i right in thinking these are the speakers?

They are coaxials not components, the standard front speakers will sound better?

Put em in the back and they will sound better than the standard rear speakers then invest in some components for the front!

Why won't the rainbow coax's sound better than standard front speakers then, any reason for this?

Im no expert but coaxials never sound as good as comps. All to do with the way the sound is split etc? The standard front speakers in the later clio's, altough rubbish are components i.e driver and tweeter, not coaxials. If you buy some rainbow comps and stick these in instead you will notice the difference!

guys, just got bk from work thanks for the comments/advice

iam gonna double check the wires later on tonight and see how i get on, might be a miss match!

but i think iam gonna go for the rainbow kicks and replace the rears..might as well!

can anyone suggest a good amp for me (no more than £200) :)

lol, in phase is the right way round, out of phase is the wrong way round. Speakers tend to need around 24 hours constant use before they start to sound anywhere near as good as they should do. I know of some speakers that have actually taken nearly 800 hours constant use to even start sounding right! (For those of you in the know about hi-fi they were Naim SL2's)

Will a multimeter show the currents as possitive and negative?

If so then pick one up for a tenner and make sure your in phase, if you use speaker wire that does not have a different sleeve for pos/neg (ie a stripe) it can be difficult to get it right, also make sure you have really good connections, crappy connections = crappy sounds. I always strip the wire back to get a good amount of it on the connecter and solder it on.

Just bought 2 sets of Rainbow SL230 kicks and a genesis amp to power them all. so they better sound good!!

Read the booklet with speakers and it does say they need 20 hours of use before they sound 'optimum'. they are also quite strict about how you position the comps and the settings you use to make sure the phase and sound re-production is the best it can be.

so the coax's sound good in the front doors of your car powered by the HU (at the moment)
Do you think they're much better on the standard ones??

yes mate they sound good with just the headunit, alot more clarity and more depth in the bass, you just have to play around with your headunit settings

alot better than standard IMO

  A4 Avant & A3
nice one, thanks for the information. Glad your sorted them! i bet you are too lol

So you still gonna be changing them for comps up front then? if so you'll have to take some pics when removing the dash & fitting the tweeters :) as there seems to be alot of people (including myself) that would like to see this done.. as i'm scared to remove the dash lol

Still meaning to pull my finger out & upgrade mine.Although i'm keeping the standard HU.

  M140i/Orange 182
yea rainbow kicks have been dispatched, should be with me monday, iam getting someone to install my amp and and do my tweeters, (he knows his s*it) as i will proberly c**k it up!

upgrade mate, i do recommend getting a HU as well though...what speakers are you going for?

  A4 Avant & A3
i was going to go for the rainbow coax's but probably the next model down from yours.
I had decided not to change the HU as i've had bad experiences with theiveing bastids in the past & don't want to change the look.. (know what i mean) so i've settled with the standard HU, i got the denison ice link plus for my ipod, so just want a half decent set of speakers to make it sound nice.. don't want masses of bass or volume, just nice sounding music will suit me fine.

just not sure on whether to buy the following:
http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/conte...+/+Speakers~st~In-Car+Speaker~make~Alpine.htm - these would be the cheap option.. would they be better than standard? or a possibility for the rear?

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/3972.html - these if i'm feeling a little more generous

or...

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/3967.html - if i'm feeling adventurous with removing the dash & 'somehow' fitting the tweeters.

just don't know whether it's worth spending that money on speakers when i'm not upgrading the HU??
will i gain anything from buying expensive speakers? or should i get some cheaper ones just to improve the sound a bit?...

what to do hey...

  M140i/Orange 182
go for the rainbow comps mate,if you can stretch the extra dollar, ia sure that the sound will be grealy improved over the standard speakers.

  A4 Avant & A3
Are you gonna be there when your mate installs them for you???
If you can, have a little nose around when your mate is installing yours & tell me how much of a pain in the ass it looks to fit the tweeters.
Like where the crossovers go, & how they actually fix into place etc...

I've just noticed today that i need new front tyres, so i think they might be ahead of the speakers now.,.. bloody hell!
