# My Official Diary Of Ownership - 172 Flamer #

  Italian 3.2 V6
Hello!

Think this could be a 1st, not 100% on that though. but i got thinking, i want to make a diary of my ownership of my 172. i think it would help when i come to re-sell the car etc etc and is sort of a more personal project thread.

It will contain updates every 2weeks (minimum) of things like..
-good driving trips/meets/photoshoots,
-having abit of fun with other cars,
-updates on moding the car,
-milage / milage done since last / services / running costs
-etc etc...

Unfortunatly i have already owned the car four months since purchase but better late than never!

so here goes, Firstly i should introduce myself properly as i never actually did when i 1st joined the club and have been on here a while now. lol!

My name is Piers, i am 20 and i live in Carlisle, below is a pic of me on the right and my better half on the left!
3715705173a10558956368o.jpg

and here is my 172 as i 1st got it standard!
3715705173a10559013753o.jpg

When i got it in Dec it had 48,000 miles on the clock it is a 2002 model and was in mint condition mainly standard apart from a load of stickerd and private plate and stealth exhaust.. always serviced before it was due and passed every MOT so had a very healthy past which i was happy about :D i bought her for 3,600quid after a good haggling down of 600quid! :D lol so was chuffed about that!

It also came with some dyno tested papers. says it i producing 147.6hp at the wheels which i was again chuffed with as some produce as little as 130hp at the fly.
3715705173a9853990079o.jpg

Below is a quick summary of the last four months of ownership!

Over the last four months i have coverd another 5000 miles which brings it to 53.000miles. i got the cambelt and aux service done ASAP as they hadent been done and were due (hence the price) i got that done on the cheap from a friend in newcastle (renault technition!). i bought the parts direct through my uncle who works high up in renault so got a great discount. ended up only paying 300 for the major service and stampd :D. some people pay over 600!!!

The 1st mod i did which was in Jan. was buy a CF Splitter from Ktec. here she is with that!
3715705173a9871538693o.jpg

here is a pic of my 1st photoshoot i had with my friend when i 1st attached the splitter. his clio is a 1.5dci with my old 1.4clios 17" alloys on :S lol
3715705173a10061493140o.jpg

this one is a couple weeks later with my cuzin and his Alfa 147 GTA.. Shexy!!
3715705173a10061501119o.jpg

i have a couple good run out in my flamer with my cuz. around the lakes.

Unfortuatly when the snowy/icy weather came along a week after the above photoshoot with my cuz i has a very minor accident. was only doing 20mph in very bad conditions coming home from my gf house (blizzard!! lol) and was coming down a hill / corner and car decides not to turn due to heavy ice and snow and goes of into some snow and grass (luckly nothing harder) and i broke the splitter!! crack the bumper, was gutted!! :( :( heres a pic of the damage

3715705173a10559314327o.jpg

the bad weather!!
3715705173a10559314846o.jpg

so this was a major pain in the arse! removed what was left of the splitter and got the bumper plastic welded were the splits and cracks are so look much better! hardly noticable! decided not to take it to a body shop as i will want to respray it in the future due to stone chips and would get it done all in one at a later date, as its not really noticable there is much point!
after fixing that problem, both my xenons went out. a good friend one here helped me out with that problem. he found out it was both ballast units had got f**ked due to corrosion. water had got into the headlights and f**ked the ballast units :( so i bought 2 second hand off of here for 50quid. renault quoted me 310 to fix one headlight (ballast unit and labour work!) so got quite a bargain since casson182 fitted them for me :D before fitting them i dried them out good and proper before re-fitting them to prevent this in the future, so far so good! :D working perfect! here she was once fixed :D

3715705173a10559314582o.jpg

next event on the list was i decided to colour code my bullets flame red! here is how they turned out. (still want to paint the lettering white mind but we will come to that later!)
3715705173a10559315201o.jpg

3715705173a10559314765o.jpg

then next on the list was clear side repeaters and silva techs all round! :D nicked the clear repeaters off my dads 1.4 (simple swap, he will never know! :D lol) and bought silva techs from ktec
3715705173a10288927222o.jpg

3715705173a10288925123o.jpg

next was i wanted a small ariel. so i went to the local area in carlisle that has all the car garages and found a C2 VTS whic a tiny ariel. went into the dealer and orderd one. cost me 3.82 and arrived in 2 days. some people say signel is s**t but i have not had any trouble and mostly listen to cd/iphone so dont care lol.. here it is..

3715705173a10559315566o.jpg

next was i did abit of diy on the interior. resprays the interioir trim flame red to match the car :D i like it but u guys may not! :(

3715705173a10288918182o.jpg

just for the record. i clean my car everyother day or every weekend if i work away with work. includes, rinse, wash, clay, polish, wash, wax, hoover, wipe down interior ..not all of those steps are taken as they only need doing every month or so ...are the products i work with..
3715705173a10056451592o.jpg

since that pic i now have zymol car wash and autoglym polish :D

....so thats the brief summary of whats happend and what i have done to the car so far!
i have just bought some special limited edition Ex Clio Cup Magnesium Alloys which weigh in at 4.5kg a piece. will make a huge weight saving once fitted. will upload pics as soon as they arrive!!

thanks for veiwing, watch this space. updates soon! injoy!! :D

# My Official Diary Of Ownership - 172 Flamer # UPDATE ! #

Sine today was such a beautiful day and my better half was at work all day i thought i would do some prep for when my wheels arrive this weekend coming. i decided to paint my calipers red (i think this will go well behind the white wheels) unfortunatly i only managed to get the front ones done as i wouldnt have time to let the rear ones dry in time (i have to drop some1 off later on) so i will do them next weekend when i replace the wheels.

i also painted the 2.0 16V bullet lettering white. i also think this will suit for when the wheels are fitted. but for the time being i still think its an improvement!! below are a couple pics of the result of how the car is now.

yea, all you do it open the door, and you will see a small circle cover directly behind the side strip. take that off and un-clip the side strip and then (iirc) you pull it back? if not push it forward then the whole thing including the bullet will come off the door. then you can either leave it attached to the side strip when painting the bullet or there are more clips to undo behind the bullet if u want to detach them completely from the side strips. then you just clip it back on once you are done.

WEEKLY UPDATE OF OWNERSHIP !!!

Current milage : 53,796
Current MPG : 30.4mpg

Money Spent this week :
-£250, Alloys
-£125, Tyres
-£20, Fitted and balanced
-£5, Copper Grease
-£15, Petrol
Total of = £400

Some of you may know i have made silly amounts of threads in the last few months over what alloys are best the get and basicly being a big ***** on which ones i should buy and why etc. but this week was the week were i went or the plunge and tbh couldnt of bought a better set for a better price!!

..So Yesterday when i arrived home from my week away with work and i came home to my delight, the new set of alloys i had bought! they are Ex-ClioCup Oz F1s (15") so i raced to the local tyre garage to get some tyres fitted and get the wheels balanced ready to fit onto my 172. once fitted last night i went for a quick blast to see what the difference was. i had hoped the car would be quicker in all areas also look ok. but to my suprise the car (i think) now looks the sex! way better than i thought it would look (as i have never seen a flamer on white 15" wheels) ..tbh the pictures below dont do justice! the wheels look so much more sportier compared ot the standard 172 alloys, these made me relise just how bland, plain and boring they made the car look, even if they were bigger! so in that department i was very very chuffed!

when it came to taking the car for a quick blast after fitting them 1st impressions were - a huge smile - , revs alot quicker due to the alloys been alot lighter! (4.5kg compared to standard ones weighing 10kg (no tyres)) so this meant the accel was so much better and felt an auful lot quicker also! especially since in total i have made about a 50kg saving from ftting these wheels, not forgetting this is "un-sprung" weight also which some people say is 4-6 times greater than normal weight loss. so my car had lost quite abit of pounds which i was again very chuffed about. the car turns in a hell of alot quicker and the steering is lighter which was all awesome news when i came to a corner! the car feels sooo much more fun to drive now!
another great advantage that i never even took into account before buying these wheels was how much better the ride qualtiy is. this is due the the tyres being a size 50 instead of the standard size of 45. the ride is less sharp and bumpy than what is was when my car had the standard wheels.

so in all, if you are planning on changing wheels, i am 100% recommending buying some light weight 15" alloys as these are the way forward! the future!

below are a few of the pics i took today... INJOY!!!

# Day out with Alfa GTA #

Today i met my cuzin at siloth to take some pics of the cars as we hadnt done for a while and wanted to make good use of weekend off and the beautiful weather! had a good run out which was good testing for my new wheels, which in all was great! alot better now these are fitted :D only thing ify is the tyres, i found today that the tyrs arnt very good tbh so i will need to invest in some better ones to get the most of the car. i wast expecting much from them as they were just budget ones lol.
car was good up against the GTA, yess it gets the edge at times but not by much, but things were favourd my way as i was alone and he had abit more weight in the car and i had lost weight on the car so things were basicly even which was good lol.

heres some pics from today when we stopped off now and again.

INJOY

This week was a quite week, not much happening since i have been working away Mon-Fri in aberdeen :( but came back fri afternoon to see a set of alliminium 5mm spacers i had orderd a couple days before. i only orderd 5mm ones as i didnt fancy forking out loads of money for these and tbh i dont need huge ones as i also didnt want any rubbing or extra un-sprung weight. the front track width is now the same as the "cup" track width also!
I fitted them on sat and below are some pics of the outcome. not a huge differnce, prob cant really tell from the pics but u can in the flesh. didnt have cam with me one i was fitting them to get better ones :(
