Hi folks, thought I would collate all my photos etc and get a thread together with my progress since I bought the Clio in July 2009.
Ok so after owning 3 Saxo VTR's mainly due to running costs and insurance, I ended up with a Xsara VTS. After running it for 6 months I came to the conclusion it just wasnt for me atall. It drank petrol and looked too much of a family car.
Quick pictures as it stood before trading it in.
After trawling PistonHeads and Autotrader I had narrowed the search down to either an Audi TT 225 or the Clio 182.
It had to be a Racing Blue one though so I started the old waiting game for one to come up with the right spec and details. Wanted a "full fat" one but this wasnt easy as it seemed there were 5 cups to every FF one.
Eventually one came up in Preston on a 54 plate with 40K on the clock. Called them and it seemed a good one It was on at £6500 but managed to get them down to £6200. I wasnt too bothered about paying that bit more as a few I had seen before were real dogs lol. This one however was minty mint, and completly standard.
Drove over and it was mine there and then. I was so pleased with it on the drive home.
This is how it stood when I bought it.
After owning the car for a month or two I decided it was abit too high and needed lowering. Didnt have a great deal of money so decided on springs and eventually went for Eibach Sportlines.
Around the same time and after hearing a few clios with the Yozzasport systems I decided to get one for myself lol
After the Yozza and Eibach's were fitted.
Took a quick drive by video of the new Yozza. ( the cat was still inplace at this stage )
The next update was to get rid of the standard cup pack wheels, as they weighed a tonne lol. Decided to be a sheep and go for some Turinis, as they just look right. Didnt want any rubbing issues when I eventually fitted coilovers so stayed clear of the 172 cup Turinis. I saved up and bought a brand new set of Speedlines from Larkspeed.com for £680. With the correct Offset too.
I then bought some bullets from a member on here which were RB with white lettering
April came and time to attend my 1st meet. Was really good to put a face to the names on here. We met just outside Halifax and went for a blast over the hills. A good day was had by all. Chris nearly stopped my heart in his ITB'd 182 and Ben's supercharged 172 was an animal lol
Just after I parked upto a lovely Liquid Yellow V6 at work, so jelous. Absolutley amzing in the flesh.
I then decided to order myslf a 3/4 plate from fancy plates using the guide on here, 2 days later it came through the door. Quickly fitted it using velcro strips incase the police decided to pull me over for a chat
A few months past and a major change was in order. Was never sold 100% on the anthracite (sp) wheels. I really wanted white ones but bottled it when the time came to order them, so I thought I would get them powdercoated by the Wheel Specialist in Leeds.
Fair to say I was very pleased with the result. Sets the Racing Blue off so much. Not to everyones taste but meh I love them :rasp:
The time then came when coilovers needed to be bought. The Eibachs were really good but just didnt look low enough, so I bought K-tec's coilovers after hearing some good reports. Decided to stick with OEM top mounts as by this time I'd heard some bad things about K-tec's solid ones...
A week or passed and they arrived. Happy days
Booked myself into North West Performace after speaking to Ryan and giving me a good price. Also Mike (Jenic) had been not long before and said they were ok.
First impressions were really good. The ride was pretty good although I had quite bad scrubbing on the fronts. Abit of DIY later and all sorted. After a few days they had settled down abit more and was I pleased with the overall stance.
Whislt at NWP I had them fit my Yozza Decat, so now had a full Yozza system and wow it was loud. Sounds awesome though. Got a quick drive past video.
A few days after the coilovers and decat were fitted I went to the Cow and Calf Meet in Ilkley. It was another good turn out.
( god knows why these ones have a black border)
Next was York Raceway with Ste666. It was a really good day and my first time doing 1/4 mile runs...
Mike (Jenic) had by now organised a drive to Whitby and Scarbourgh. Really good roads and a really good showing too.
After the coilovers were fitted the handling was abit dodgy to say the least so I took the car to get Hunter HawkEye Digital Wheel Alignment in Huddersfield.
Before:
And after
The front left camber is as negative as they could get it due to the design of the
K-tec coilovers. You get what you pay for I guess....
So thats it upto date, 12 months on and I'm back in love with Clio.
Thanks for reading and ile update with any new progress.
Matt.
