My standard renault headunit set on fire!!!

172 Cup & Clio dci Van
driving home listening to the radio then all of a sudden i smell electrical burnings and random bits of interferance on my speaker. turn on th interior cabin ligth to see smoke streaming out the cd player!!!

i was like W T F!!!!!!

pulled over opend the windows and the smoke poured out asif i had hot boxed my car or something!

at this point there were a few sparks and smoke galore and the speakers were going mental, i actually thought my car was about to break out in flames

turned off the stereo asap, and smoke stopped as did sparks. when i got back i pulled the headunit out straight away and something inside it has obviously shorted out hardcore , was covered with carbon deposit shite and was scolding hot, i actually burnt my fingers when pulling it out.

car stinks so will have to give proper clean out, thankfully there is no other damage other than the headunit being kaputt.

all the cables were ok though... :S

Any one had this happen to theres?

Should i contact renault? do you think i would get a new one.

Glad it turned out alright for you mate, however it does remind me of Only Fools and Horses - Jolly Boys Outing where the coach sets on fire because dell boy sold the coach company a dodgy tape player.

Haha drained my batterry and alarm went mental so that wasn't the end of it haha

If battery was drained with the head unit removed, then this could indicate possible loom damage or a damaged fuse box.....

Check this out ASAP just in case it gets worse and does actually ignite the insulation or plastics.....

Not the same but was out in the 182 on sat, when I turned the engine off and took the key out the stereo stayed on? Had to put the ignition on and off again to turn it off... Weird!

id take the -ve lead off your battery tonight if i was you,

i think you should have a mare at renault for this,
you were clearly driving a car in which something hadnt been put together properly, and because of this put your life in danger,
