Been doing some small restoration stuff on the Clio during lock down. Just trying to refresh and repair any signs of corrosion at the moment. Will post up a few more of the finished results.

Passenger side rear quarter/sill fully painted and clear coated. Note that the more dull part under the bump strip has not been polished yet.

Bits still to do:

- buy and install JMRS intake
- install battery cover along with intake
- install new powerflex dog bone mount
- check inside rear quarters for corrosion
- respray and clear coat drivers side sill and rear quarter panel
- dynax UC sills, under rear bumper and behind fuel cap
- re-fit sills, rear bumper, and petrol cap
- deep clean seats and carpets
- fit fabia front splitter
- detail entire car
- fit NGK spark plugs (Bosch currently fitted and not happy with them)

Bits already done:

- removed all corrosion from underside and sealed with POR15
- fitted fresh OEM shocks all round
- fitted fresh discs and pads all round
- fitted fresh eibach springs
- oil and filters changed
- Brake calipers refurbished and painted

I'm actually doing it all myself with spray cans. I was not originally going to spray the rear quarters, but there were a few veryyy tiny bubbles (1mm at most) in the paint at the bottom of the rear quarters so thought it best to address while I was there. I was surprised at how good a finish you can get with the cans. Obviously you need to wet sand and polish the clear coat afterwards to get it completely flat and rid of orange peel.

My main aim for the car is to restore to as good a standard as I can myself while addressing all the usual areas of corrosion and keep the shell fresh as possible.

Do you guys on here know much about the corrosion on/around the front brackets holding the front bumper on? I've heard a little about it on here but not seen and photos of the corrosion. Just want to address all potential areas now before any corrosion progresses.

Dead easy, I must have had mine off 4 or 5 times in the last few months.

First off two 10mm bolts at the front through the bumper under tray (the bit connected to the bumper not the main under tray) into the subframe.
2x 10mm bolts under archliner into bumper bracket.
3x T20? Torx on either end (6x total), one on the arch lip into archliner, two under the front corner into the archliner.
2x trim clips on the top of grille into slam panel.
Other than that disconnect the bonnet switch, foglight plug and a firm pull on each side where they clip into the wings.

I find that a lot of the reason the bumper corners don't dont pull up tight to the wing is if the under tray is pulled too far forward on the bolts, loosening and pushing it back closes the gap up.

Got the drivers side rear quarter and sill painted/clear coated today. Here's some pics to give an idea of what can be done with spray cans in a normal garage. Obviously very orange peely but I'll wet sand and polish which should mean it ends up half decent. Main thing is that the sills and arches are protected properly.

Also noticed while doing this work that the area where the panel skins meet at the bottom corner of where the rear lights sit had surface corrosion on mine which I removed. Any others on here seen the same thing?

Bit of a disaster with the paint job I carried out on the Clio. Turns out that since it was water based paint and the climate at the moment is cold and damp, the paint turned a milky colour under the clear coat and ruined my many hrs of hard work!! 🤦‍♂️ So lesson learned for future will be to get paintwork done by a pro! Car is booked in for a respray of both doors, both quarter panels, bottom of front bumper, bonnet and the side skirts. Pretty much a full respray really. Not needed but just want to get it done right and for it to last.

Have any of you guys tried lanoguard for protecting the underside of your cars? I'm keen on giving it a try for both my cars since it's clear, organic and is extremely easy to apply by the look of things. About £65 for a large (5ltr?) tub which should do a couple of cars.
I've been looking for this kind of thing for years!!

Been a while, but car is almost complete at the body shop having both driver and passenger side rear quarters, sills, side skirts, bump strips + front portion of the bonnet sprayed to remove the usual corrosion patch and the lower portion of the front bumper which was scratched sprayed and clear coated.

Will pick the car up next week and take better photos.

Thanks guys I've had the car since 2010 when I bought it with 32,000 miles for £3,200. It's now just about to turn 80,000 miles. Great fun and very practical so would like to keep using and enjoying it for years to come!

Took both front arch liners off to remove about 0.5kg of dirt built up over the years. Delighted there was zero rust so cleaned up with car shampoo and a brush then sprayed dynax UC to protect then put back the liners and fitted new mud guards (to prevent stone chips) with stainless fixings. Thanks to Fraz for the link 👍🏻

Any photos of silver 16" oz ultraleggeras on a titanium silver 182? The current wheels are in need of a refurb and rather than spending £250 on them, I was thinking of 15" or 16" ultraleggera due to them being lightweight and high quality rims...

Nice work mate. I imagine silver Ultraleggeras will look mint on it - I may be slightly biased, but I'm a big fan of the silver on silver look! (unless its the standard 182 wheels in silver haha!)

Yeah I think silver on silver is the way forward. I've never been a fan of black or dark wheels. Do quite like the compomotive wheels that some have on here, however they are 15" and since I'm on standard cup shocks with eibach springs they'd look too small because the car isn't low enough.

I've got a dog bone mount with purple poly bushes to fit next along with a battery cover but still need to purchase a JMRS induction kit.

Silver on silver is best in my opinion, trouble is my Turini’s are so nicely finished it seems a bloody waste to refurb them. So I’m tempted to try something else. I quite like the thought of 15’s just to reduce the cost of tyres if nothing else

Yeah agree, the 15" option would be a lot more cost effective and with some man maths may justify some coilovers down the line when you take into consideration the savings on tyres. Better handling and ride quality too. Only issue is that I've got brand new Michelin PS3's on my current wheels 🙈
