n00b 182 spark plug question

Chaps, before I go any further to check the state of the spark plugs, am I right in saying that the top of the inlet assembly has to come off to get to them?

I stopped at that point as I saw a gasket at the front (where the 10mm hex bolts are) and didn't want to risk damaging that.

I'm amazed that they aren't easier to get to. Even the V6 plugs are a piece of piss in comparison - lol!

Cheers,
D.

Bugger. :(

Cheers Gaz. Any thoughts on the gasket when I take the inlet off? Am I ok just to retain the old gasket or should I get a new one first?

Paranoia - I know! ;)

I'm sure Kev retained the one on my Cup back in the day, but i'm sure they are only a few quid anyway. Sometimes it can cause vac leaks if not seated/secured etc!!

^^^ - That's what I was thinking really. Would it be a good idea to clean or prep the old gasket before I put it back on?

Yes you can do, and if your really paranoid smear a very small amount of instant gasket around! There is really no need, but it will do no harm what so ever! :)

Nice one! I'll risk it without then.

Any recommended makes of plugs in particular? If I'm going to the hassle of looking at them first, I'll probably swap them out regardless. :)

Be careful not to knock the gasket when you're re-fitting. Or you'll have a 3k RPM idle until you buy a new one, like me. ;)

Lol Chris - I bet that was an 'oh f**k - what have I done?' moment? ;)

I'll get a new gasket as well. I'm going to swap them out next Saturday so I've got the rest of the week to get the stuff.
