Need Advice on the PC !

  Shed.
Hello everybody.

k so depending on how much is in my bank account i might buy the one which is for sale on here right now. go look at the different pads also.

what sort of s**t would i need ? as in polishes or whatever. megs # 567283 etc etc

Basically ive got some really s**t marks and swirls on my car whch need to go, same for my mum's merc and my dad's colt.

Is there suffuicient s**t in the package id be buying from the guy off here to remove the deep scratches (not down to the metal though) and the swirls. ?

I m guessing id remove the swirls and then SIMPLY polish and egp it again ?

someone wanna walk me through the steps or point me in the direction of a tut or guide ?

Polish routes for the defect correction there are 3 routes

Meguiars 83 and 80
Poorboys SSR Super Swirl Removers
Menzerna

Starting out I choose the Poorboys roure, SSR 2.5, 2 and 1, easy to master and use worked ok.

Stepped up to the Menzerrna of late, better gloss, overall finish and correctional powers but harder to master. Menzerna Intensive Polish and Final Finish are the ones to look into.

After this you can SRP, EGP and Wax as normal. You wlil need the PC aswell as a selection of Cutting, Polishing and Finishing Pads, the most worth while addition is the Pads in the 4 inch spot size. Worth doing a search on here been discussed a fair bit.

I called the "cleanyourcar.co.uk" place yesterday and they said that the new UK spec PC is out soon. Cheap'ish too :D

Early reports on the new machine are mixed though - check out detailingworld and read the reviews.

It seems to be like an expensive electric tooth brush/ lady toy...Don't know why they couldn't just take the USA version, change the electrics and add a more powerfull motor. Missed opportunity, although I am sure they will make a better version in the future.

American version works great for me, although probably not enough kick to tackle really bad cars.

I started on Menzerna polishes with my PC and have had great results so far - although I have used a rotary a couple of years ago so not a complete novice. Not rocket science to get started, but difficult to learn the Jedi tricks Rich has up his sleeve!

Thanks chief. i was asking on detaling world and they started arguing about how much people paid professionals to pc their car. i did state i was only after someone who would be willing to spend an hour or so removing the swirl marks !!!

So must i use all 3 of those products ? i still dont quite understand how it works ?

if ive got the choice of all 3 coulnt i just take Meguiars 83 and 80.

And do i need a product to remove the scratches, then reprotect the paintwork, and then would i be able to simply srp and egp the car again ?

Thanks for the help mate. i dunno were id be without it !

In an hour you won't get anything done really, even if you washed, clayed and masked up the car.

You don't want to rush it either - it defeats the point of wanting a professional and proper job. If you just want some quick work then get a bodyshop mop - although will no doubt leave a poor finish close up.

then how long should i use the pc over a single pannel on the car, say the bonnet. ive never used one before so i dont really know where im going here.

is that pc any good ?

All PCs are the same - it is a brand product rather than a generic type of product - so yes this one is what you are after!

There is no set time for each panel as obviously depends on how bad it is, how good you want it and what products you are using.

When I use mine, I lay a little polish onto the panel (if it is horizontal like a bonnet) or onto the pad directly (for vertical panels). I then spread the polish evenly using a low speed setting, ensuring 100% coverage of the panel. I then crank up the speed to 4-5 until most of the product is gone. Then remove any remaining product with a MF towel to check the progress and judging whether I need a stronger pad and/ or polish.

On a bad-ish bonnet I would say 30 - 60 minutes working fairly quickly for a pretty good finish. Also depends if you intend sealing and/ or waxing afterwards too.

i would be polishing and then sealing.

Ive got no end of time so time isnt an issue. can you give me a step by step guide inclusing what polishing producs to use.

ie-

1. - Use megs 83 with sand paper lol untill swirls are removed.

2. reseal with god knows what

as far as i can see. it gets done with the pc to remove the swirls and then to ifnish with it just gets some srp slapped on followed by some egp, perhaps two or 3 layers.

So i need to buy the pads and the pc from him, and then what else do i need ?

The kit you will need is:

PC
110v transformer
110v extension
110v plug

Polish (I would recommend the Menzerna range)

Pads and backing plate (6" are standard, can get 4" pads too for smaller areas although I don't have these myself yet - a German polishing pad can be used to good effect on difficult areas by hand)

You can apply the SRP by machine or by hand - although I normally just do by hand. Same goes for EGP.

links to a webadress and the price of those ?

and should i get the entire Menzerna range ?

Can take a day at least to properly de-swirl a car. If your prepared to put the time in to learn how to work the polishes properly get the Menzerna.

If you use the 83, chances are you will need to use the 80 after to refine and perfect the finish.

SRP you may as well apply by machine too - much easier than by hand.

well ill go with the menzerna polishes then. i have a lot os spare time for the summer so that aint a problem. can you name a price on the transformers and the plug and lead please ?
