Need help my clio 172 backfire problem!

Hello all, new to all this so here goes!
I have just purchased a clio 172 last week and all was fine untill today, the engine has started to backfire and when accelerating throughout the gears sort of stutters/jitters (only way i can think of describing it!) Has anyone had this sort of problem or any idea as to what could be causing this?? maybe sparkplugs need changing?? any help would be great thanks.

Most likely be either plugs, leads or coilpack. Start with the plugs though.

yea cheers chris, a mechanicaly minded friend sort off sent me down them lines, will pick some up tomro and go from there

Hi Guys, im picking up the spark plugs in abit and will change them along with the oil and filter, will run it for a few days to see if the problem persists. (touch wood it wont!) if it does i will change the leads. Any idea what sort of leads i would need? would i have to get some specific renault ones or would some 'universal' ones do the job. what sort of price would they be? My friend seems to think it is heat related as when i drove it this morning there was very little backfire, just a bit when in 3rd gear. Any help would be great! Not the best start to my clio sport experience but i will persist!!!:approve:

Pm DannyR he has a working second hand set you could get off him for a decent price, I wouldnt even try a set of Universal ones lol..

Any lights on the dash? Sounds like a lambda sensor from the symptoms.

Hi tom, the red stop light in the top left corner is on when i put the key in but goes out as soon as i start the car. dont know if this is related to it?
