Need help with a Clio with a few issues

  Fiat Punto
Were looking at a mk2 Facelift Clio on a 2006 plate

The work that i know has been done
A new cambelt
HG replacement (@ less the 60k :( )

Anyway, it all started when it failed to start - they jumped it, and was fine at first, then the lights on the dash board came on

anyway - the battery had failed, wont hold charge overnight when disconnected
A donor battery to test and it was all fine, it starts and runs after been left - no issues :)

So with a new battery all is good

Bar the following lights remain on
STOP, serv, EML, ABS

When a code read is done, it returns just 1 code
P0500 - Vehicle speed Sensor A

The code WILL clear, leaving the EML off for a short while

The speedo apprently is dropping out to 0 - then come back
with the return of the Code

However the ABS, stop, Serv lights wont budge

----
Been to local mechanic, which says the ABS unit is returning the same code as the engine ECU

---

Since the vehicle has ABS, the vehicle doesn't have a "speed sensor" on the gearbox that i can see, only a reverse switch near the diff output

We seriously need some help with this vehicle

Tommorow im going to have a check of all fuses to ensure when it was jumped it didnt blow a fuse related to the ABS
And with an ABS basic wiring diagram from Autodata - to just quickly check all the sensors wiring from the ABS big connector

Any advice and help is greatly welcomed

Yup, definitely sounds like the abs sensor or ring has had it.

Just to add though, 99% sure all abs faults are self clearing so won't need cleared on Clip

CLIP is the Renault Diagnostics tool - sometimes required if generic readers don't give proper codes, or to turn off certain codes that generic readers cannot do :]

Also, where are you located? Best bet is to take it to a specialist on here who has a CLiP!

Nottinghamshire basically is where its located atm

Just ebay'd the Clip - £120 is steep lol - but if you love a brand you get the tool

No different to me with MES which is for Fiat/Lancia/Alfa diagnostics - since im a lover for the underdog italian (somebody has too!)

Right - i dont think my multi-meter wants to play ball with me

So the fuses are all A - OK
the Rings on front are okay

When using the ABS plug to trace wiring back
I got about 25milli Ohms resistance on all the sensors - Thats surly WAY WAY too low?
i' was sorta expecting about 1K ohm each tbh....

So there has been a small development with the vehicle, small yes

So had it on another code reader today
There were numerous code issues been stored over the various units due to
low voltages from the flat battery and been jumped

When connecting to the ABS unit, it came up with Code 17 ECU
It took some connecting too!

The code would clear - but upto rescanning - it was straight away back saying 17 ECU using a snap on scanner

So where do we go from here?
