Car  clio sport 182
i have a milltek decat,matched inlets and bored out plenum,bmc cda wich i fink is soming off,and a rs tuner map,but tonight didnt prove fast enough along side a standard 182(i presume)what can i do next for some more power gains with out turbo or itb?i assume cams is the only thing left?
 
Strip it, Upgrade Brakes, Suspension - Its not all about straight Line Speed
 
the only problem i have is that im in the race scene but also need it for long journeys as i drive home from germany to birmingham and my gf lives in sunderland,hummm have to have a good think about this one
 
H&R Coilovers are Apparently not much harder then Std when Set-Up correctly
 
If you crave BHP then I'd just go with some Scrick Cam's from Yozzasport or iirc Catcam's 428 Profile Cam's are meant to be quite Wild and both with your other Mod's and Mapped correctly should have you up and around 200bhp

I dont know how restictive the 182 exhaust system is from cat back?

well its a long story caister,had a bit of a drag race and i nearly stalled it as i have my ankle in cast iv bust it lol and she shot off,she had a good lead on me but within seconds id caught her and was side by side but had to slow for the island so she naturally thort shed won,as she did really but anover 2 seconds i would of,to finalise she thort shed give it anova go and i watched her get smaller in my mirror but what im saying is that if her car was standard then the mods on mine didnt pull very hard compared,but then again it didnt help i had to other mates in the car and a boot full of sub

I've been daydreaming about it for a while, turbo's aren't really right for the rs engine imho, too much work.

A proper supercharger like a sprintex or similar would be very very cool, capable of delivering up to around 285 bhp :) from idle aswell!

I wouldn't be easy, certainly a lot of benifits over a turbo setup and imagine the fun :evil:

No one advertising it. But it's less complex, theroetically, than a turbo set up by virtue of much lower intake temperature and half the pipework. Plus i feel a proper blower (i.e not half-turbo centrifugal unit) but something like a lysholm or eaton will match the low end requirements of the rs engine. IMO.

That and a barrel intercooler like one from PWR and it'd be very cool.

I'll build it for you :) ha.
 
A positive displacement unit might not be the the best choice for a near stock clio. Whilst generating instant lower rpm boost, their higher end efficiencies are significantly worse than centrifugal units, thus output at higher rpm sufferes severely and you would be stuck trying to decide on efficient power placement through the rpm range.

And they are extremely large physically, especially if you actually want to make decent power. There would be packaging issues, especially if you wanted to fit an IC/chargecooler like you have mentioned, rather than mating the discharge directly to a newly fabricated stubby inlet manifold.

Their torque delivery is also a lot more brutal, and with the clio's weak gearbox and engine internals, the last thing you want to do is to generate massive torque at low rpm's.

A centrifugal is small, light and easy to install.

Their output isnt great at lower engine speeds as their output increases with the square of rpm, however this generates a much smoother torque curve, similar to stock, and will allow engine and drivetrain components to 'wind up' rather than be hit with a hammer blow of torque on snap throttle opening.

They are also much more efficient at higher rpm and boost outputs.

So you would be able to run a centrifugal unit at higher peak boost values than a linear positive unit, thus make more power on the same stock engine without overstressing components. It wont drive as well off idle, but you'll still have plenty enough power to cause traction issues.

I love positive displacement, but in this application they wont work as well.

No wonder she won. You had mates in the car and ice. You'd be talking a extra 200kg's there maybe more..

Get rid of that lot and it would have been a totally different story.

If you want more power next step is Cams

Upwards of that and your talking big cash, TB's,or turbo etc
 
lol i no its quite funny that i have a cast on,but yeah yesterday all my rear bench went out and the sub and amp,the car feels so much more responsive now,and benr im sort of confused with what you are sayin,sorry im a bit blonde but what is a centrifugal?i no about centrifugal forces but what are you calling centrifugal here a turbo?
 
Ben just wanted to give some facts about the proposition of somebody that said to put a charger on there. Seems like he knows his stuff..

Maybe he's saying do'nt do it ;)

I totally agree with everything you say and I know better than to argue with a man of your experience :D

A small rotrex or something would be easier but I've got a mild obsession with twin screw blowers after getting into the american tuning scene a few years ago, seeing the gains that whipple and kenne bell blowers get over tradional roots units without any real modification to the engine got me thinking :)

Worth noting that Jackson racing have switched to a twin screw blower instead of a centrifugal one for the honda type r kits.

BTW once I have some spare wodge you I'll be calling you about some inlets after reading the reviews.

I'm pretty sure that the JR units were previously positive displacement units, and now he has sold the company the new JR company uses Rotrex units? The older kits with the PD chargers were good bolt ons, but never made that much real power, shame all our FWD cars just dont have the space to fit a large PD unit and make some decent power.

And the good thing about a rotrex is you just use a BIG one! lol

I've seen some rotrex kits offered for the CTRs that apparently push upwards of 400bhp. Plus Autodelta get some good results from them. Who want's to be a guinea pig for this conversion then?! :)

I personally think (having not driven one) it'll be like a turbo setup, everyone loves the initial few goes but after a while the kack off boost performance and low speed tractability sort the true turbo-nutter b*stards from the rest of us.

What you on about space anyway BenR? Just have the blower sticking out the bonnet! :D

well the Omex prepped westfield with 2l duratec makes 1.5 bar at 2k rpm so there's not much off boost to worry about

The CTR kits are apalling, we are in the middle of re-doing a kit for another company. The other kits would flex when put under load, bolts would snap, square edges would seat on radiused noses etc....apalling stuff. Not to mention the inlet manifolds, IC's and other crap they made.

The centrifugal units do not have that instant off idle oomph simple because they cannot generate the mass air movement at lower compressor rpm's, however this is MUCH safe for renaults and other poxy built items and gearbox's which would blow up uber fast.

And no need for a guinea pig, our kit is already up and running.
