NEED SOME MOT ADVICE!

  Clio 172 Mk2

First and foremost... hope all of you had a very merry Xmas!!

My car is due for its first MOT in January. Now.. Ive given it a quick once over and it all seems pretty well. BUT... I have 2 potential problems and I was wondering if they need seeing to before the MOT.

1) I have a stonechip on the screen. About 1 foot away from the passenger pillar, its not in the sight of the driver. Its a star shape about 1cm in diameter.

2) My rear washer is not squirting! Wiper is ok, but is this critical? And any ideas of the most likely fix- heard it may be some kinda valve.

Your help would be most appreciated as I want to be able to get thru this MOT with minimum fuss and expense (as Ive already spend a fair bit on the car!)

rear washer isnt tested

Stone chip depends on where it is on the screen. If its not directly infront of the driver then 1 cm should pass. If its not in the area of the screen thats swept by the wipers then anything goes pretty much

Cheers Neil!

Well... the stonechip isnt in the area that is wiped by the driver side wiper but it is in the passenger side (Only just)

And... any ideas on the rear washer anyway?

alternatively make the crack bigger and get it replaced on your insurance for £50. Last time i had a non squirting rear washer i cleared it by blasting some air through the pipe, probably not the correct way of doing things but it worked, heh.

Have considered this. How do I go about it without makin it look obvious that its been deliberate???

And also.... who do I get to replace the screen?? Ive heard that various companies use various brands (cheaper) that are not quite the same as the Renault original! How can I make em use the heat reflective version as opposed to a bog standard one??

From MOT test

Windscreen

Includes all items affecting the drivers view of the road: the condition of the windscreen, the wipers and washers.

Chips or cracks in the windscreen directly in front of the driver, in the area swept by the wiper blades, are acceptable if they are less than 10mm in diameter. In the rest of the swept area, up to 40mm damage is acceptable.

Official stickers (parking permits, tax disc etc.) in the swept area in front of the driver will result in a fail if they are more than 10mm in diameter (40mm elsewhere).
Washers and wipers

operation
extent of area swept by the wipers
condition of the wiper blades.

Saloons dont have a rear washer.. so they defo dont test it.

A 1cm chip should be ok.. but, if its in drivers view and they whip a tape measure out.. and its 1.00001cm, then, well, I wouldnt like to say, hehe.

(If they do find its 1.00001cm, ask them where they got the tape measure, cus its pretty accurate.)
