new 1.8 from renault?

  172 mk2
would it be possible to buy a new 1.8 16v engine from renault?

would like a turbo'd valver but if a new engine (as turboing a high miler is not such a good idea?) could be turbo'd then dropped in, even better.

k tec sell the turbo for 3k how much for the engine?

i;m pretty certain u'd be able tog et one, but it wouldnt be cheap. As far as i know theres a law which states you have to make all replacement parts available for so many years for older cars, think its around the 20 year mark?

i thought there was some law like that, 10 years and they the moulds could be sold to other companies..?

reckon reno would sell them whole?

tbh mate i'd fully rebuild a used motor with forged pistons then you can have the spec. that you want. You'd have loads of options! If you need any bits i'm sure i have 2 complete engines (one is in bits lol)

Cheers

dont see a point buying a new engine, even a wreck of an old engine can be brought back better than new.

When i say better than new, built to better and more consistent tolerances. Blueprinted if you will.

If your going for a completely stock engine build, then most certainly.

If your wanting to lower the static CR then forged pistons can bring that above 1k, but if your clever you can machine the thick crown 1.8 pistons to lower the CR.

Ben are you able to do this to the the 106 gti engine?

make it better than new + maybe a bit better too....

wouldn't mind buyin a high miler cheap if this work will make is like new....

yes, certainly.

By optimising the engines clearances on stock components you can increase efficienty, and thus power, without having to resort to any fancy components.
