New 172 exhaust

  53 plate 172
Any idea how much it will cost to get a new exhaust fitted pls? exhaust went on the way home from work tonight and my car now sounds like a tractor !!

Snap! I am contemplating getting a KTEC stealth stainless one, although i dont really want a loud exhaust. But standard ones cost an absolute fortune i believe...

Oh, i dont want to buy a none renault replacement though as possibly lose power as not same bore, good baffles in backbox, etc, etc.

Wouldnt get it from Renault, double cat, think it comes in 3 piece.

800 odd quid iirc?

wtf? It can stay on the driveway for that. I'll drive the missus Meriva !!
Any cheap alternatives?

Just for the record I've had my car from new nearly 5 years ago and have only done 15K. The car is totally original. I also have a young family and have just moved house so I have a huge mortgage. I am basically clinging onto keeping this car but losing the battle.

Any help appreciated.

I also work by Demon Tweeks, are they reasonable? Do members get a discount?

Get k-tech. I have a mk1 stealth, which sounds awesome, but does drone abit on the mway. I think the newer version is supposed to be a little quieter

New one is a good buy. It's not too loud when driving normally but is loud enough when giving it some beans!!

Went to ATS in the end. The back box and centre piece are one piece so I've had to have both replaced. £300.

You could be right I may have dropped a bollock here. The new exhaust is noisier than the original Renault and performance is no where near as good, seems very sluggish to me.

You should have got a yozzasport stealth if you wanted a quality exhaust with similar noise levels to the stock renault one. Plus its stainless so itll never fall off like the renault one.

But how much you talking for one of those? Centre piece and back box fitted?

If the ktec stelath wont lose power comment was aimed at me, obv i know that. I meant "cheap" standard replacements.

How much is a Yozzasport Stealth? Is it deffo as quiet as stock Renault? I just cant be arsed with a noisy exhaust. Is the ktec noisy, quiet, etc? Any opinions?

Gambler, the ktec is on special at £305 delivered from a post in for sale.

You can get a stainless steel powerflow stealth for around £250 fitted and there's deffo no power loss (a gain if anything)
Mine isn't much louder, just a better sound. Just make sure you specifically ask for the quietest one they do.

realnumber1, where did you get yours from? (hudds not too far) when we were younger mate had 2 different exhausts for 2 different cars, each time asked for the quietest ones, both times they sounded way too loud, both were from Leeds.

Got it done at Topgear burnley. It should have been £270 (back in Jan) but told them people on here recommended me..... and got £20 off.
They did a good job.

Wasn't nice without a backbox for a week and half though, lol:S

6 weeks on and the noise is really getting on my tits now. Anything I can do? Just replace the backbox or shall I just live with it? Need the cambelt replacing too so money is tight.

Is it a genuine renault exhaust you got from ATS, or a patern? £300 seems a lot!

I got a genuine Renault back box on monday from an exhaust specialist (just supply, don't fit) and it cost me £82 + Vat. A patern was only going to be £55 + Vat.

I had to have the centre piece replaced too as it was all in one piece. It is now in 2 seperate sections.

Renault charge £350 for the full exhaust, surely the B/box is the most expensive part and that only cost me £100, came with all the renault stickers, part numbers and embossed with renault badge. A middle section must only be about £65 if a back box is £100.

new centre section and back box from renault is £350ish

Including fitting?

I thought I read £800 somewhere on this forum. The problem was the exhaust went on a Thursday night and I didn't know what needed replacing so I went to ATS at riday lunchtime and they told me it was about to fall off so I bascially had it fixed there and then.

If I'd had a little more time to do some research I would have borrowed the Mrs's car for work and ordered a KTEC stainless steel for example.

Hindsight...........

Well if I can get the peace and quiet back for £100 I may be tempted. I'll have a word with the lads down at Birchdown when I go to get my belts replaced, see what they can suggest.
