new bucket seat and afr meter pics

Makes a really big difference must be sitting 3inch lower in the car pretty much on the floor. Once you do the harness up you really cant move at all which took a bit of getting used to but it is surprisingly comfortable.

just need to get a new steering wheel. Probably get one of these.

Its hard work getting in and out and doing the harness up. It is a vast improvement over the standard seat though once you are strapped in.

It is as low as it can go which is very low and where it should be IMO. The car feels slower now because you are so solidly locked in. You can fly round a corner or stand on the brakes and you dont slide or move around at all which reduces the sensation of speed.

Very nice quality seat aswell.

Overall the struggle with the harness is more then made up for by the driving experience.

As you no doubt know yourself it is a very good modification.
 
Do your Clio's in the UK have air bags in the seats and steering wheel?

If so you guys are nuts, they will save your life one day...

Being straped into the seat with a harness is safer imo as you can't move!

Mark, car is looking very sweet, love the seat. Whats the use of the afr for? :o

or break your neck! I don't really like the idea of an explosive the size of a coke can blowing up in my face!
 
Portal i'm trying to recall a form of motorsport where they favour airbags and 3point belts over harness' and buckets ;) lol

Mark, I'm missing mine loads very tempted to get another set later in the year. Like you say the seating position is bang on and once its been in a while you'll notice that you get alot more feedback on what the car is doing where you are strapped into it so securely.

If you want to compare chalk and cheese.....

Racecars have roll cages and extra side impact protection.

A bucket seat and harness aint going to save your life in a side impact with a pole, an airbag will. Fact.

doubt it, plus how you end up going sideways into a pole on a public highway i'll never know!

AFR meter displays the air fuel ratio in the exhaust fumes. The meter is attached to a wideband lambda probe in the exhaust. It is used to map the car. You increase or decrease the fuel to achieve a 12.9 (I think, lol) reading when out of closed loop. Because I have an OMEX I can adjust this on my laptop.

Portal that looked like a nasty crash I am glad everyone walked away.

Airbags in a car protect your head from hitting the steering wheel or a post/side of the car or any solid item in the event of a crash. Whilst strapped into a harness and cocooned in the seat you dont move full stop. If car manufacturers could incude this as a safety measure I am sure they would. But the general public do not want to squeeze into a bucket seat and then strap themselves tightly down with a harness. You can not even reach the stereo or close the door when you are in.

The seat itself is also FIA approved and a one piece design that is built up around your legs and sides of your body. In the picure of your friends crash where the seat is creased that is because it is a metal frame with foam inserts, in other words offering you no protection in the sort of accident shown in the pics.

I feel much safer in a system designed for motorsport with no compromises then I do in a system designed to allow ease of use and movement in the car.

Nice one.... the driving position and feeling from buckets/harnesses is MUCH improved IMO thats why my last 3 cars have had buckets...
 
good one mate - but your afr meter is blocking your speedo - what happends if youre doing over 120??? lol

I never suggested racercars didnt.

How will it? wrap a car round a pole hard enough to get past side impact bars and an explosive device between you and said object which has destroyed the side of the car isnt going to save you.

There are at least two members here i can think of offhand that had been saved from death or serious injury by having harness' and buckets fitted.
 
Seat looks great, always fun to get in a car with proper buckets, as you say though harness take some getting used to day to day. Would piss me off day in day out tho LOL!
 
I think buckets are an all or nothing kind of thing, either get two in and strip the rest of the interior or dont bother, I always think buckets look odd if you have like a plush leather/alcantara rear bench

I didnt fit it to look good.

The height and lack of support in the standard seat really detracts from the whole driving experience especially in a car famed for its handling. If you like going fast get one if you want to look good dont bother;)
 
Which seat is it? Monaco. Looks well smart, gettin me a couple soon and some other goodies hopefully.

lol.... the harness makes it much safer than stadard seats with airbags etc.
