New Car Ford

  Fiesta ST Stage 3
I think 350-360 is max then you need to think about con rods and pistons .

Saying that in the USA people are running 380 + on stock internals .

Never realised you could squeeze this sort of power out of these! Impressive!!!

Just thinking about the exhaust and 200 cell sports cat as I have this between Mountune and Milltek .

Think I will go for the Milltek non race resonated unit as this is 2.75 inch bore ( Mountune is 2.5 inch ) and is the quieter version of all the exhausts for the ST and is bang on stock sound for noise as im trying to keep the car as stock looking / sounding as possible but need a bigger / less back pressure exhaust / cat .

The Airtec intercooler in black hides so well with the stock front end that you cant really see it unless you look hard .

Beast! We'll have to go out and get some footage of you destroying me in my RS LOL

It is fun but not OTT for the road as the map is so smooth and progressive just keeps on pulling and can hit some silly numbers very quick I am told :)
I am told it is the same pace as an BMW M4 but would be good to see how it fairs next to its bigger brother LOL .

You had the Mountune MR230 with the sports cat and exhaust on your old Fiesta ST and reading your posts would you say it was a tad loud for you in everyday running ?

So after a few more dives and a trip to Essex yesterday I can say that I love this little thing :)

feels just as happy on the motor way as it does on a back road and 6th gear is all you need to make rapid progress .

The best thing for me is that it looks totally stock bar the Mountune MP-215 badge on the back and the Airtec intercooler at the front that you cant really see so it looks just like a little Fiesta but at the same time a little sleeper with this set up .

For the £ 2300 it cost I would say it is a bit of a performance bargain and after reading the below it seemed ford went to town on the little 1.6 engine .

Pistons
Hyper Cast w/DLC Pins

The OEM hypereutectic pistons were a pleasant suprise. The unmachined surfaces of these cast pistons have a near machined finish. Piston crowns and top ring lands feature a performance enhancing coating, while a friction-reducing coating is found on the asymmetrical skirts. Piston pins feature a diamond-like-coating (DLC) for exceptional wear resistance. These are some of the best OEM cast pistons we’ve ever seen. It wouldn’t suprise us if these pistons could survive in a 350hp or perhaps even 400hp engine.

Connecting Rods
On the EcoBoost 1.6L, a hot-forged powder metal process (sinter forged) and cracked rod cap process is used in the manufacturing process to add strength .

Main, Head Bolts & Bearings
Big Caps, Girdle & Three-Piece Thrust

The EcoBoost 1.6L features some massive main caps with an integral girdle system (a.k.a. beam). This is a very robust solution and we’ll probably come nowhere near its limits. The main studs are torque to yield and should not be reused. As always, we’ll look to ARP for a main stud kit solution and we’ll CNC vertically line bore the block for optimum crankshaft alignment in the block. A new generation three piece integrated thrust bearing is part of the main bearing solution.

Cylinder Block
Lightweight & Ribbed

The aluminum alloy engine block uses permanent mold technology with high-strength alloys. The block features thin-wall casting in low-stress areas to minimize weight. If this engine were a person, it would have under 10 percent body fat. Extensive ribbing adds to the skeletal strength in high stress areas. The engine’s “open-deck” design trades off some cylinder strength for lower weight, lower production costs and improved cooling balance and efficiency.
We are betting that doubling the power on our build will still be within the capabilities of the factory cylinder walls.

I must say, these cars grow on me more and more. With them being so popular, I think they're going to be a real used bargain. The engine seems super strong. It's a car I will definitely consider for the future.

I've already got a nice one owner low-miler lined up in a good few years time to run as a daily alongside my then retired RS. I can't think of anything else that I'd rather have.

They are such good cars once you get past the image and/or stereotypical owner that you'll then be sat right beside!

I knew i'd read somewhere the engines had serious engineering involved.

I'm seriously tempted by one. I'm now aware why i couldn't shake one in my old 300bhp Ed30 - this thing was pushing me up the road!

A lot are driven / styled by undesirables but its still a good car .

Mental. On cast internals?! They're strong then!

Collins have done 40K miles with there test car that is still going strong after some hard testing / driving .

In MR 230 or CP2 they are quick little things and a lot of people running the setups .

There were 2 in time attack at Cadwell as few weeks ago, pushing 600bhp+ Evos along!

Really that seems crazy

My Milltek cat back exhaust and sports cat has arrived so all I need is some good weather to get it fitted .

The system is 2.75 bore from the stock 2.12 bore .

I have chosen the OEM noise level option that 99.9 % of people do not go for .

Yo can get four different types from the first the loud to the last OEM style noise

Non res race ( loud back box and no centre section )

Res race ( loud back box and centre section )

Non res ( normal back box and no centre section )

Non race res ( normal back box and centre section )

Surely it wouldn't last long on stock internals. I know they were over engineered, but twice the standard power?

A fair few in the UK running up to 340 - 350 BHP with no issues .

Collins Performance ran there CP4 320 + for 50000 miles with out any problems .

A milestone for our CP4 car!
50,000 miles and still feels like new!

After numerous track days, taking many many customers for test flights, and so many country... lane blasts we've lost count!

Nothing as much as a cough or splutter! Absolutely impeccable!

After 50,000 miles of "rigorous product testing" the feisty little Fiesta is barely run in!

The ULTIMATE Fiesta upgrade! HUGE power, TOTAL reliability and ABSOLUTE drivability!

Just proves our packages offer unmatched factory reliability and piece of mind with proven upgrades!

At the weekend I set about changing the exhaust system , cat and diverter valve .

First up I will say this was not an easy job made so much harder when doing this on a stone drive was with only jacks and axle stands .

First up was to remove the engine cover , wiper blades , plastic cover , clips , turbo pipe , cross over pipe , headlights and induction system .

With this lot removed this gave access to the exhaust manifold and cat heat shield and after some wrestling they came out giving access to the cat .

I also checked every boost pipe and nipped then all up as some were not super tight as they can leek if they become a bit lose .

On the test driver the throttle response is much better and the turbo spools up much quicker and the air brake woosh noise is now gone at low revs when coming off the throttle .

The car feels noticeable quicker now and revs quicker and just pulls harder in each gear .

As the car is running the CP4X hybrid turbo set up the sports cat and exhaust system will be helping out much more than on a stock turbo car as they are so much bigger and more free flowing .

First up was to check the rear brake pin sliders as I have read that that they can cause uneven were on the rear discs if they are not moving correctly .

The NSR were ok but I re greased anyway but the OSR were dry as a bone and looks like they never had any grease in them from new as my car is only a year old .

Then in April this year I went up to Collins to have there CP4X pack fitted that was X-47 hybrid turbo , Airtec intercooler , CP4 remap .

Info below .

Featuring the awesome X-47 turbocharger, along with our own design uprated actuator, we have seen impressive results! Even during the early stages we have seen over 320bhp at a low 1.5bar.

We intend to run this turbo at a safe level, with all factory Ford safety measures intact, to maintain absolute drivability and reliability, with torque capped at 290lbft to maintain longevity of the transmission and to produce a very linear and smooth power delivery.

We believe this is a much better package all round compared to our previous CP4 package, as it is more drivable than the larger turbo we previously used .

And that is how the car is now .

It looks very OEM stock but now drives and has the power I wanted from it and it a little bit of a sleeper unless you look hard .

I gave the car a wash at the weekend and took the car for a good long drive and its reminded me just how good this little thing is now .

The one and last thing it will need will be the LSD as this will make the car perfect and will allow all of the extra power to be deployed all of the time .

And the print outs .

269 BHP

269 LB/FT

A little bit down on the claim of 306 BHYP and 285 LB/FT but the car feels very quick ( as it would with 270 BHP ) on the road and the AFR are looking good .
