Where would be the best place to get a recon or new engine, and how much cash would i be looking at spending for both?

The only place you are going to get a *new* engine from is Renault I guess

Yeah, if you were to buy it from renault it'll probs be same price as a car!

I think autotrader have a parts database now, i dont know how good it is but you could give that a blast?

Plenty of second hand 1.2 engine around, but not necessarily reconditioned.

If you are after a 172 engine or similar your best bet is a breakers

well im after a 1.4 but i will be putting the engine in my self. i currently have a 1.2 16v, how easy would puttin a 1.4 16v engine in instead of a new 1.2 16v? ill have to try autotrader then.

well im in my last year at college studying motorvehicle so i should be ok. well if i need any help iv got mates and my tutor. How long do you think the job would take?

its just as hard or as much hastle to fit a 1.4 16v as it is to do a 2.0 16v or any other clio engine. but a 1.2 16v > 1.2 16v is piss easy

keeping in mind they changed the engine in 2004 to a newer style but still the same basic engine but it requires a different ecu etc afaik
