New owner of a V6.

A way to go yet but it gives the idea.

Exhaust is all stainless including the pipes so will clean up nicely. Although the back box may yet be covered with a plain sheet of stainless.

In a strange sort of way it's good to see it back to its bare bones as it gives an idea of how they're put together.
Mad isn't it, basically they just hacked a shell apart and welded some stuff in. Badly.

I didn't realise they were so closely related to a normal mk2, did they just take a mk2 body shell and modify it rather than a specific shell?
They took a standard Mk2 shell, whacked it on a jig and plasma cut half of it away. You can see on mine on the front end where they cut the front slam about to fit the bigger rad, they didnt even tidy the cuts up properly...the edges are still rough. There's a bit of 1" box welded across the front chassis rails under the luggage tray that looks like a 7 year old welded it in.

Things have moved along a bit

The glass is now back in Exhaust work is getting sorted, the initial idea was to do away with the exit pipes from the ends of the backbox and bring them straight out of the back however, room was going to be the issue as the tailpipes would have been sticking too far out the back. Onto plan B, change the exit pipes. They'll now be 75mm stainless with 90mm tips, the backbox will be covered with a new piece of stainless to lose the seams etc.

Old tips v new tips ( although on the old pipework )

Although the wheels were refurbed at a Mag Alloy place when I bought them last year, there was a bit of corrosion on the inner barrels of the 2 rears. When Scott removed the wheels to send the car into the bodyshop, he rang and told me the paint was popping off where the corrosion was and he put it down to poor prep.
I spoke to the place that did them and although they said they'd redo them they were non committal re the corrosion.
Scott spoke the place he uses and they said that before repainting they'd need treating with Zinc Chromate, after searching Google apparently it's used to counteract corrosion on alloy metals so, off to them the wheels went....hopefully should be all good this time. Wheel studs have been fitted so the wheel bolts have been consigned to the bin.
The wrap is planned to go on next week all being well and the car should be back with me by the end of the month. Then into the detailers for about 4 days for him to work his magic and have the decals reapplied.

Exhaust tips? Who needs them?

With the pipework going from 1.75" to 3" it made things a bit tight so, no tips needed.

All that remains is for new wheel studs fitting, rear spoiler refitting and the wrap to go back on and it'll be on its way back.

Coming along nicely! I miss that sweaty back in my old one haha.

I took mine to a wedding reception once and half the reception came out to check it out. Was in a farm yard area all lit up at night under these orange lights and looked absolutely epic sat there. I’d literally just done the deal on it about an hour before! Never had a car like it since that’s been such a draw for people to come look at and want to talk about.

I often wonder if the supercharged, sequential one that appeared on YT about 12 years ago ever progressed. Would love to have a SC one.

Not been here for a while so thought it worth updating.

Decided that the yellow Cromodoras have run their course. Not that I dislike them but started to feel as though I ought to be wearing a red nose and big shoes when in the car. The car shouts at you enough without any help from the wheels so, for now, the silver Cromodoras are back on.

The yellow ones are being redone the same colour as the dark grey on the wrap, hopefully they'll look ok as the design of the wheel will not be lost, e.g. as in black, but will be quite understated. If they work then great, if not then will try a different colour, fairly sure they'll be fine though.

Very similar to this colour for the wheel....

Another job done to push it further down the V6 Trophy rep line'

I've always felt that 2 aspects of the cars appearance made it look a bit soft. One was the back end around the exhaust and getting whacked up the arse gave me chance to sort that out.

The second one was the fog lights, have never used them since I've had the car and I felt they tied it to a road car look so, they had to go!. Now looks more aggressive and even wider on the front.

And then there were none..

Time for a bit of work on the inside.

Managed to get hold of a (very well) flocked dash top. Also managed to get hold of a pair of door cards in black, same flocking but the armrest area done in black nappa leather. They will go on as soon as they can be taken off the donor car.

With the oem colours being grey and blue I've always tried to avoid black however, at some point in the future the blue seats will be out and replaced with Pole Positions in half leather so will be introducing black into the equation.

We're getting loads of spam accounts signing up and doing the same thing. Trying to keep on top of them. It was that one that made me realise they're using existing posts somehow
