New shocks, or coilovers?

  Looking for 182
Hi all,

I have a 182 on OE shocks (original as far as I know, car on 61k miles), and Eibach Sportline springs. I've noticed over the past 2-3 months that the car is feeling very bumpy. Going over small bumps in the road it really feels like the car is taking a battering.

I'm assuming the shocks need replacing.

Now, I don't know whether to spend £220 (from Ktec) for new shocks all round, or to get the Ktec Coilovers for £350, and then sell my sportlines for about £90 or so. It'll work out only a little more expensive for the coilovers, so what do you think? Will the ride be just as bumpy?

I would probably try to fit them myself, or at the very least do it with the help of someone off here (with plenty of beer money to say thank you).

Thanks

All your answers are above. I'm happy with the sportlines stance, but a bit lower would be nice I suppose. I have some spirited drives but nothing too manic!

The Ktec coilovers arnt great but are good for the price, if your not bothered about being 'on the deck' which tbh you can't be on ktec coils anyway as they are to soft id just get new shocks.

I'm thinking new shocks might be best actually, as I hadn't factored in the cost of getting the coilovers properly set up. Plus, if I sell the car I'd probably put back to standard, so would need new shocks anyway.

How can I tell if I need new shocks all round or just front ones?

pretty certain KTEC are a distributor mate, not a brand
they dont actually make anything, just sell things.

post a link to the different things youre looking at.

TBH, £350 on coilovers isnt going to get you much,
wherease £350 on shocks could get you some fantastic shocks!

personally, id go for shocks on their own with that budget, you get more for your money performance wise.

Oh I see. These were the ones I was looking at - http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=2853&appid=2

I think I'll get new front shocks for now and leave it at that. Thanks

easiest way to tell if they need replacing is the bump test,
push the corner of the car down with all your weight,
it should go down, come up slightly hider than standard, then settle at the standard height,
if it keeps on bouncing, they knacked.
also check for fluid leaks!

those coilovers look very similar to the Rokkor ones,
they pretty low standard as far as coilovers go!
what shocks are you looking at??
i believe the ktec ones are APEX, but i think they do other makes too,
if you have the monies, look at KONI adjustables, amazing shock absorbers!

however, stiff fronts and standard rears dont go well together.
unless you plan on uprating all the shocks, you might as well stick with standard spec shocks

  Stripped yozza'd cup
That's when he had decided on getting standard ones though....

Sorry, wasn't trying to be an arse, just saying he was looking at buying all four if upgrading.

To be honest, I'm probably confusing everyone because I can't make my mind up.

If the current shocks are fine, then I won't change anything. I did lean on the front of the car the other day, and they felt quite stiff, but it wasn't bouncing around like you say, so maybe they're ok.

Another reason for maybe going coilovers is that I'm close to purchasing some 16" Turinis, which always look smaller than 182 wheels (even though they're not). So I'm worried the arch gaps will look a bit "airy".
