Newbie looking at clio 182 trophy

i have had a fabia VRS mapped and now have a mazda 3 MPS aero I am looking to sell and pick up something cheaper as am getting married next year.

The 182 trophy seems to fit the bill, sporty, handles well, fairly good spec etc.

My concerns....

Build quality? Issues in general with the engine, parts, rattles, durability etc!

I have never had a reneault before and am aware of the rep (No offence intended!)

What are peoples opinions of the 182 trophy durability over time. I would sell it when it is approx 5-6b years old. Is there anything i need to look out for wehn buying one?

Great cars to drive, blows the vRs into the weeds (I drive my brothers vRs regularly). The major issue to look out for is the condition of the dampers. You'll get people telling you it's £1400 per front corner if they fail. Thats true, but you don't need new dampers if they fail, they can be rebuilt for £500 (both sides), or you can pick them up on ebay occasioanlly (2nd hand), last set I saw went for £360.

Trophy wise there is a rumour on forums about the shocks leaking and costing about 1k each to replace. Yes if they do break they cost a lot to replace but I haven’t yet come across a real case, just talk about it.

was not meant to be a plug sorry, just providding a bit of context! I in no way doubt the handling ability and driver experience of the Trophy. Cheers for the link, will have a butchers.

Will look at the Cup as well as have heard stories of the Trophy being a bit sore on your bum! I am 6,2" so hope that wont be a problem, but is another reason for the trophy as the recaros give an extra 10mm headroom as well.

oh, fair enough, need to sell mine first and go from there. What are your thought being a owner? Ride comfort? Issues with the car? What are you changing for?

Best car I've ever driven, bar none. The ride is slightly firmer than a 1*2, but more than acceptable. I've had 4 RS Clio's, and touch wood never had any major issues. I wouldn't be selling if I had a choice, but only bought the car about a month ago, stupidly without selling my other car. Can't shift my other car, so I've put them both up for sale. If the 172 goes 1st I'll keep the Trophy, if the Trophy goes 1st I'll probably keep my 172.

Bummer, i am going to make sure mine is sold first! Really reluctant to sell mine as i love it to bits and have modded a bit as well.

Flys!!! 0-60 in 5.7 secs and handles well to...never mind...Clio will be a worthy replacement as ther handling will be much better:)

nah heights not an issue.

You need to test a cupped 182 and trophy to make an infromed choice. The choppy ride on the trophy is not for everyone and cupped 182s can be had with recaros!

In the last week ive just got my trophy. I went from a reasonably well tuned evo 7 to this car and so far im loving it.

The car feels so much more refined and handles like its on rails. Definitely feel like ive done the right thing.

The evo was stupidly fast in a straight line, but the clio is fast enough in a straight line and super quick in the corners.

There are definately some bargains to be had with the 182 trophys...just need to flog mine then i can search properly!

Warren, did you not just buy the Trophy?
Yes mate, but can't get rid of my 172, and I can't have 2 cars! I also want to do some more tuning (cams etc) and strip the car out, use it for track and day to day to use, and I feel stripping the Trophy would ruin it. TBH if the 172 sells 1st, I'll keep the Trophy, it's such a great car.

How much is the suspension worth on the Trophy? Someone told me it's worth alot!!!!! Dunno myself..................

apparently it is approx 1k per shock!!!!! Can get a re-build for 250 per shock though so not too bad imo. Need to sell my beast so i can start looking properly...

Had mine for a couple of weeks, found it suprisingly refined when it wants to be, but an absolute riot in an instant! :D

Really starting to love it
