newer style 1.2 16v engine question

in 2004 (i think) renault changed the 1.2 16v engine slightly for one with a different inlet manifold, throttle body and ecu. think that was all that was changed, i might be wrong tho.

had a shot of a car with one of these engines yesterday and realised that it was actually a bit faster than mine.

what im wondering is, is it just a simple swap to swap the older engine for the newer engine or is it the same as converting to a 1.6 or 2.0 where you need to change UCH etc?

thinking about putting one in untill i can afford to insure a 172 instead of pissing about with a 1.6 conversion
cheers

Bottom end is the same head is different also the ecu is different is uses a 3rd gen imobilisor similar to the 182. you could change is butyou would need the loom and ecu.

what about the UCH does that need changed too? also whats different about the head?

Different casting I think.

Yep will need the UCH and plip keys and key ring. Plus all the loom realy to ensure it will work.

There no point stick a new engine in your or a 2.0 IMo thats the only options.

was only going to do it if it was a straight swap with no need to change ecu or uch but not going to bother if its hastle, as thats the reason im not doing the 1.6 conversion i was talking about for now as i dont have time and cant afford my car off the road for any longer than a weekend!

You can use your existing ECU you'll just need to do a spot of re-wiring. all the sensors are the same but some are in the wrong place. the wiring in your car mart is encased in rubber
