Poor lad. You definately deserve a new one after all that agro. My Cup has been in the garage for a week now and I thought I was doing badly.

thankfully my 172 has got 15k and just over a year of trouble free ownership under its belt, hopefully itll stay that way. hope you get the situation with your cup resolved fella

same goes my 172 has been trouble free and just about to hit 18000 miles.

do anyone agree that you get good uns and bad uns or does the ammount of stick you give the motor have a direct bearing on how soon things go wrong?

Nope, its either good or bad from the factory mate...

My Cup was diagnosed as having a faulty gearbox at 500miles, which was still in the running in period and I had been gentle with it!

Yet my mate hammered his mk1 172 from day one, has done 3 trackdays in it, covered 53k miles in 2 years and its been ok.

There dont seem to be that many engine related problems to be honest. Gearbox, engine mounts, interior rattles and in my case, dodgy paintwork.

Everything Ive heard about is completely unrelated to mileage/abuse - they just happen.
