non cupped 197 owners....handling

had a very dodgy moment earlier in 197, i really dont feel it handles like the 182 ff did, it feels like the front end is going, even my girlfriend comments it seems skittish compared to the 182, whats the tyres on the standard 197 like compared to the exaltos? tyre pressure is fine, car is near 18 months old, done 6500 miles but even from first few drives just dont like the feeling at the front end say coming off of a roundabout and it just doesnt feel finest

I had 4 ( i think) company 197's covering about 3000 miles in each and I can honestly say that handling is deffinately not an issue!

I'd get the car looked at tbh mate.

i just find its when say when entering roundabout its fine but coming off its like front end is going, say even firing round bend and not hammering it just feels like its going

Get it checked asap. Mine instills confidence whenever i drive it, and the grip and handling is sublime in comparison to my 172 Cup!

in the 182 i could drive like a complete lune but 197 dont have faith in it handling it, is it the difference from going from 182 with cup suspension and exaltos to standard 197?

I've owned a standard 172 and a 182 Cup and the 197 is the best in the twisties for sure!

so what would cause the car to feel like its going and by that i mean like it feels like front sliding, road surface maybe? what other tyres can i get for it?

The Conti's that come standard are fantastic... I'm running Toyo T1-R's and they're great too!

Does it have the standard Conti's?

Not good mate, I suggest getting it checked out.

Have you done an HPI check on the car?

Very strange, deffo get it checked!

Maybe get a go in another 197 to compare the difference, you can have a go in mine if you don't mind driving 4 hours lol

thats a good idea actually mate, 3 other 197's in town but all cups, maybe have to go to a meet and see.

handling wise this is the only issue i have with it

I would defo get it checked mate, I can honestly say I've never been worried about understeer in the clio the front end has always been sharp for me and mines non cupped

For sure there's something wrong with it IMO.

The 197 is so much more confidence inspiring than any 182. Totally planted yet still a mobile rear end on the throttle. The 197 I drove was an early (non-cup) and I thought it ran rings around my 182 in terms of grip, handling and stability.

Hav heard of the odd damper failure on some 197's. No where near as bad as the mk2's though........

Cant comment on mine really as i'm running coilovers

same as everyone else, doesnt sound right. I have a cup packed 182 and now have the standard set up on the 197, i personally felt i had more understeer on the 182 as well.
