Non sport ARB bushes?

Whilst doing work on my car, I know and can see that both upper and lower ball joints have been replaced each side.

But looking at the anti roll bar the (bushes i believe there called?) look nakerd !

They look like they just Torx screw out right?

Any links to where i can get some replacements? Im guessing they need to be replaced..

And are they part of the MOT?

Yes there part of an mot, There a stabiliser for the arb, local auto spares will sell them, think there around £8 each

There the ones you need and as fred said have fun there a bit of a cunit to change, tracking won't be affected by them

just get them from GSF (i have a massive pet hate of car parts and e-bay, actually i just hate e-bay!)

trust me, if you're a first timer they're a b*****d!

And theres me thinking i could just unscrew them out, Havent had a propper look though and seeing as you two have said... Thats now not the case.

Any guides.. Rough guides?

Trying to do things myself.. I cant afford paying for labour !

You have to tension the arb to get it fastened up, I had one on ramps and used a block of wood and a jack to help, if you have some car knowledge you'll be fine

Price for a garage to do this Fred? How long would it take a pro?

Ive changed springs on my car and im mechanically minded (feel like im in a job interview)... Think i just need a guide...

So once the cars jacked up. I need to jack the ARB up to release the tension or something? Probably way off track.

I did this to mine and it was a piece of p*ss, just use a jack to lift your front end up...Then get the old one out by using two molegrips (if they have perished and the nut has come off), if not use a 10mm (iirc) spanner to get the nut off the bottom and then use the molegrips to twist in alternate directions on the bushs, eventually the middle bit should come out and its just a case of pulling the bolt out of the top.

I advise to use a crowbar/long metal rod of some sort to push down the ARB to allow access to the middle part, you can try and rest the bar lowering the ARB below the sill so that you can use both hands for the molegrips, but be careful as the crowbar could do some serious damage if it comes up and hits you.

If you were any closer I'd do it for you :(

The only bit thats a pain is getting the nut onto the thread when you're fitting the new one, it's just a case of persiverence.

Next time I come to do mine I'll make a guide.

na not to release it, just undo em

its crushing the f*****s enough to get the nut on that's the hard bit!

Cheers Camble that helps me a lot...

So jack up the car...

It looks perished to feck so, Get the nut off if its still on.

Mole grip and twist the bush out then get the bolt out the top?

Then i need a metal bar to push downwards the ARB?.. This will allow me to do what get the middle bit out?.

Still a bit baffed, But im guessing it will explain itself.

Could you do a rough step by step guide for me? Would really help.

And then after ive got the new one in i have to compress the bar to allow me to tighten it up?

Mine were slightly perished, but here goes:

From memory...

Raise the car and take the wheel off, point the steering inwards to allow for more room.

Use a 10mm (iirc) spanner/socket to undo the bolt on the bottom.

Use a long bar to push down the ARB, either put the end of the bar under the sill so that it is pushing the ARB down a lot and keeps it in place to allow for both hands to be free, or get someone to hold the bar for you.
BE CAREFUL WITH THIS, AS IT WILL BE ON HIGH TENSION AND IF THE BAR SLIPS IT WILL FLICK UPWARDS AND COULD HURT YOU!

With the ARB pushed downwards, you will have room to fiddle with the middle bush, use molegrips to lock onto it.

Use a slightly smaller pair of molegrips to go around the bolt head, either keep this still while twisting the middle bush downwards or try and turn opposite ways, be careful as either can easily slip.

Once the middle bush is removed, pull the bolt through the top.

Fitting is reversal of removing, once you have the middle bush above the ARB and the bolt through, slightly release the rod/bar you used to lever the ARB down before and allow the nut to pass through the ARB, now you should be able to put the bottom bush and finally the nut on, the hardest bit is to get the nut onto the thread as the bolt needs to be perfectly straight through the other bushes and bars to allow the thread to show as much as possible, once you have jiggled it about a bit you will be able to get the nut onto the thread for one or more turns, then just tighten it with the spanner/socket.

Tighten until the bolt shows about 1cm of thread under the nut.

JOB DONE!

Cheers mate, I will have a look at the bush tomorrow, I know it needs replacing... Just so i can get the whole idea of what needs to be done then ill order the parts up..
