not the normal strut top problem? possibly?

Replaced my standard 172 struts and springs with new spax items, also replaced the top bearing and rubber donut. However once putting the weight back on the wheels the strut top mounts (21mm nut jobbies) seem to sit 5mm above the turret, is this normal. Ive seen lots if mentions off 3mm spacers but it seems these would do the opposite if what need to do. It seems like I need to take something out not add it in! Any suggestions gladly received.

yeah i get this all the time, if the top plates were tight to the body you wouldn't be able to turn the steering ;) I do worry about some people ;)

Surely the movement of the strut for steering is allowed for by the bearings? Its only the spring and shock body that need to move, the shaft can remain still and rotate within the shock body.
They were much closer to the turret with original suspension, the rubber marks are quite clear.
